À LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Sylvie Genest

Sylvie passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the age of 54.

She will be deeply missed by her two beloved sons, Janick and Maxime Lacroix, who were the center of her world. She was the daughter of Jean-Louis Genest and Louise Genest (Bélanger). She is also survived by her loving and attentive partner, Christopher Sabourin, and his children, Mathew, Daniel, and Robyn Sabourin; her brother, Marc Genest; her sister, Rachel Genest (Louis Cailloux); several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins; members of the Sabourin and Lacroix families; and many dear friends.

Sylvie was a vibrant, graceful, strong, intelligent, and talented woman who inspired everyone she met. A proud hockey mom, she enjoyed golfing, travelling, gardening, reading, working on puzzles, and relaxing by her pool. She also held a black belt in kickboxing, a testament to her determination and strength.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa with degrees in Political Science and Public Management, Sylvie was a dedicated public servant. Over the course of her career, she served at Consumer Affairs, Industry Canada, the Treasury Board of Canada, and concluded her career at the Canada Revenue Agency as an HR7, Assistant Director in Staffing.

The family wishes to thank La Maison de L’Est, where Sylvie received kindness, compassion, and exceptional care. Special thanks to Dr. Plantive and to nurses Zara, Julia, and Britney, with whom Sylvie bonded instantly. Gratitude is also extended to the oncology staff at the Ottawa Hospital, including Dr. Whetter, Dr. Busca, and nurse Catherine, for their dedication and support during these challenging times.

Family and friends are invited to the Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Road, Orléans, ON, on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 3 p.m.

In accordance with Sylvie’s wishes, donations to Hospice Care Ottawa (La Maison de L’Est) would be greatly appreciated. Your contribution can make a meaningful difference in the life of someone in palliative care.

Sylvie s’est éteinte paisiblement, entourée d’amour, le samedi 9 août 2025, à l’âge de 54 ans.

Elle laisse dans le deuil ses deux fils bien-aimés, Janick et Maxime Lacroix, qui étaient le centre de son univers. Elle était la fille chérie de Jean-Louis Genest et de Louise Genest (Bélanger). Elle laisse également dans le deuil son partenaire attentionné et aimant, Christopher Sabourin, ainsi que ses enfants, Mathew, Daniel et Robyn Sabourin; son frère, Marc Genest; sa sœur, Rachel Genest (Louis Cailloux); plusieurs neveux, nièces, tantes, oncles et cousins; les membres des familles Sabourin et Lacroix; ainsi que de nombreux amis précieux.

Sylvie était une femme rayonnante, gracieuse, forte, intelligente et talentueuse, qui inspirait toutes les personnes qu’elle rencontrait. Fière maman de hockey, elle aimait le golf, les voyages, le jardinage, la lecture, les casse-têtes et se détendre près de sa piscine. Elle détenait également une ceinture noire en kickboxing, un témoignage de sa détermination et de sa force.

Diplômée de l’Université d’Ottawa en sciences politiques et en gestion publique, Sylvie a été une fonctionnaire dévouée. Au fil de sa carrière, elle a travaillé à la Direction des affaires des consommateurs, à Industrie Canada, au Secrétariat du Conseil du Trésor du Canada, et a terminé sa carrière à l’Agence du revenu du Canada à titre de HR7, directrice adjointe en dotation.

La famille souhaite remercier La Maison de L’Est, où Sylvie a reçu gentillesse, compassion et soins exceptionnels. Un merci particulier au Dr Plantive et aux infirmières Zara, Julia et Britney, avec qui elle a tissé des liens immédiats. Nos remerciements vont également à l’équipe d’oncologie de l’Hôpital d’Ottawa, notamment au Dr Whetter, au Dr Busca et à l’infirmière Catherine, pour leur dévouement et leur soutien durant ces moments difficiles.

La famille invite parents et amis au Complexe funéraire Héritage, 1250, chemin Trim, Orléans (Ontario), le jeudi 21 août 2025. La visite débutera à 13 h, suivie d’un service à la chapelle à 15 h.
