In Memory of Stanton (Stan) William Smith
It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing at the age of 71 of Stanton (Stan) William Smith on March 5, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Louise (Auger) and his cherished son Eric William.
Stan was predeceased by his parents Rita (Giroux) and William James Smith and brother Francis. Lovingly remembered by his aunts Emilienne Gerard and Fleurette St. Laurent, uncles Malcolm (Kay) and David (Noreen), sisters and brothers-in-laws, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the proud godfather to Stuart, Annie and Stephane. He especially enjoyed his lunch outings with Jean-Marc (Suzanne). He will also be missed by close friends, the Spillings, the Holgates, the Maciuras and the Mignaults.
Stan upon graduating from the University of Ottawa, worked at IBM’s Ottawa office for over 35 years. Stan was an avid golfer at Greyhawk Golf Club and a pickleball player. He passed on his passion for sports to his son and they looked forward to attending RedBlacks, Senators and Blue Jays games together.
Family and friends may pay their respect on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Complex (1250, Trim Road, Orleans) followed by a chapel service at 12 p.m.
In memory of Mr. Smith, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

My sincere sympathies on the passing of such a wonderful man. I will miss golfing with him every Monday at Greyhawk with fellow golfers Nicole and Bill. You can tell quite a bit about a person during a golf game and Stan was the ultimate gentleman.

We were shocked and heartbroken when we heard that Stan, our wonderful friend had suddenly passed away. Stan was a kind, caring and generous man, he had a big smile and a terrific sense of humor. He touched so many lives, and we are blessed and honored to have known him and his wonderful wife and son.
I had the privilege of working with Stan for many years at IBM. We became very close friends and colleagues, we were like brothers. We were both avid Ottawa sports fans. Louise, and Karen became good friends as well and the four of us spent many happy times together.
He will always have a special place in our hearts and we are praying for peace and comfort for you and your family. We hope the wonderful memories you have will help you during this very difficult time you are going through.
I will miss you my friend ,Itwas always enjoyable playing pickleball with you all those years.Furthermore you were a wonderful person and a good friend, You will be missed by all of us in the pickleball community for sure. Dan
I met Stan for the first time last fall while playing pickleball at Francois Dupuis Recreation Centre. We quickly established some kind of connection and enjoyed an occasional laugh at our sometimes mediocre display of skills – he was nevertheless always quick to compliment anyone who made a good shot. He was an extraordinary person and I am sorry that I didn’t get to know him earlier. In our conversations, it became obvious to me very quickly that he cherished his family and friends, and to you all I offer my deepest condolences. I know that you must have many fond and great memories of Stan to help you look to the future. Rest in peace Stan – you are and will continue to be missed.
Au pickleball, tu étais un joueur qui aimait le sport pour le social et l’entregent. C’était un grand plaisir de jouer avec et contre toi. Tu étais grandement respecter dans la communauté pickleball. On te manquera beaucoup Stan.
We extend our most sincere condolences to Louise and Eric, and to Stan’s extended family. We are profoundly saddened by his passing and remain heartbroken by the thought of no longer seeing or speaking with our most kind neighbour.
Stan was a very friendly and courteous man, always upbeat and generous. We collaborated on many projects, conversed frequently and kept an eye out for each other.. So many chats, so many laughs! We will miss him.
We trust that the many happy memories you have of him will give you strength and soothe your sorrows.
With deepest sympathies,
Gaston, Jane, Matthew and Alicia Barban
