In Memory of Ruth Florence Goddard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth, surrounded by family, at the age of 91.

Born in Ottawa she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Annie Nichols and sister to seven siblings; Bill, Arthur, Harold, Frank, Edith, Dot and John.

She is predeceased by loving partner, Pat McDonald and survived by her children Kevin (Isolda) and Keith (Kim) and her grandchildren Daniel (Liz) and Alis (Anna) as well as furry friends Princess, Jinx, Loki and Rufus.

Growing up on Rideau Street, she had fond memories of spending time at the synagogue and convent across the street.  She attended the original High School of Commerce in the late 40’s where she learned perfect penmanship and secretarial skills.

Married in 1957, she lived in Beacon Hill, Pennsylvania and Montreal before settling back in Ottawa (Manor Park) to raise her two boys.  Once they were old enough, she returned to work as an office administrator in the Federal government at the Beef Marketing Board and Correctional Services until retirement in her early 60’s.

Ruth enjoyed several pastimes including various crafts, cooking  and especially gardening.  She always had a spectacular garden of flowers and vegetables that was the envy of the neighbourhood.  She kept up the garden into her 80’s when the physical effort became too much.  She also loved the company of her cats that were with her most of her adult life.

Special thanks to the dedicated, professional and compassionate staff at the Venvi Portabello retirement home and the Saint Elizabeth Health Care workers that supported and cared for her in her final days.
