In Memory of Norman Thomas Cromey

Norman Thomas Cromey, age 78, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family at The Ottawa Hospital.  

Born on February 4, 1947, in Anand, Gujurat, India, to Rev. Fred and Molly Cromey (nee Getty).   He lived there until the age of six when he returned to his home country of Northern Ireland.

Norman was a kind and funny man with a love for puns. He had a wide range of interests, including photography, stamp collecting, model trains, and community activities. He was a dedicated member of the Scouting movement, the Masons, the Shriner’s Clowns, and DeMolay. A significant accomplishment in his life was becoming Master of the Edinburgh Lodge. 

He was a Federal Public Servant and worked at Statistics Canada for 20 years after having worked in the private sector for several years.

Norman was very proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed studying the genealogy of his ancestors.    He enjoyed traveling with his wife Catherine and spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren. 

He leaves behind his wife Catherine (nee Clawsie) of 48 years. He was the loving father of Matthew (Julia) and Liam (Jennifer), and the cherished grandfather of Tommy, Tiernan, Aiden, Maddy, Landon, and Noah. He was the dear son of Fred (deceased) and Molly (Getty) (deceased), and the beloved brother of Annabelle (deceased), Douglas (Christine), and Ann Smith (Greg). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Karyl Ann, Geoff, Timothy, Jonathan, and Andrew and several grand nieces and nephews 

A funeral service will be held at St. Helen’s Anglican Church, 1234 Prestone Dr., Orleans, Ottawa, Ontario, on February 15, 2025, at 10:30 am. A Masonic ceremony will precede the service at 9 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. S Halman and Dr. E Parsons of The Ottawa Hospital for their care and compassion in his final days. We are very grateful for the emotional and spiritual support from The Venerable Rhonda Waters during this difficult time 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or The Ottawa Hospital.
