In Memory of Nandanie Fernando
In loving memory of Nandanie Fernando, a well-loved pillar of our community, who passed away surrounded by friends and family on June 25th, 2025. Nandanie was the beloved mother of Diliksha and Upeksha, and the wife of Henry Fernando. She is also survived by Kapila, Bandula, Ananda, Colin, Tamara, Mahinda, Dammika, and Wipula.
Nandanie came from Sri Lanka in 1983. In line with core Buddhist teachings, she diligently practiced loving kindness and devoted countless hours to volunteering at every temple across the city.
She wholeheartedly gave her time and attention to establishing herself – especially within the Sri Lankan community – as someone people could always turn to, thanks to her effortless generosity and selfless nature. She was the first to help when people were in need; either welcoming families to the country with her delicious home cooked meals and a place to stay, or simply providing a comforting and nurturing presence.
We will always be inspired by her enduring resilience and kindness in the face of adversity. Her spirit endures in the strength, warmth, and compassion she so wholeheartedly embodied. Though her physical presence has left us, the light she lit in our hearts still shines brightly which is a beautiful reminder that true love, when given freely, remains with us forever.
Friends and family are invited to the Heritage Funeral Complex 1250 Trim Road, Orleans, Ontario on Saturday, June 28th from 6:00 to 8:00PM and on Sunday, June 29th from 1:00 to 2:00PM. Family Eulogies and a Prayer Service will begin at 2:00PM in the Chapel.
Our warmest condolences dear Henry, Diliksha and Upkeksha on the passing of your beloved wife and mother Nandini.
We are sorry we will not be able to attend the service in Ottawa – our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Please accept our deepest Sympathies and condolences on passing away our dear friend Nandani. With all our accumulated merits passing on to Nandani. May she attain supreme bliss of Nibbana!
We will always miss you 🌹

You, who protected me like a mother, will remain in my heart like a sister until I die. It is sad. I wish you a safe journey, sister, and a peaceful life.
Nandani Akkay…You were the first Sri Lankan person I met after moving to Canada and little did I know on that day (March 3rd, 2012), you would also end up being one of my dearest friends. In all those years, I only knew you as a person who only saw the good in people. You never thought twice about helping others (without expectations nor any regards to your own well-being) and the Sri Lankan community could always count on your help which came “wrapped in your love and care”. Even though you have now left us to travel the rest of your Samsaric Journey, your memory will never leave us! Good Bye Nandani Akkay and may you find the Supreme Bliss of Nirvana soon.
Henry Ayye, Upeksha and Diliksha: You now have the responsibility to keep Nandani Akka’s legacy alive – CELEBRATE IT AND LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST!
