In Memory of Judith “Judy” Ann Benson (née Janzen)
After a courageous battle with ALS, it is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Judith “Judy” Ann Benson (née Janzen). Judy passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Judy was predeceased by her beloved parents, the late Peter Frank and Verna Edith (née Clark) Janzen. She was the cherished wife of 49 years to her devoted husband, Kenneth, and the adored mother of Ashley (Craig Walker) and Emily (Martin Parenteau). She was a treasured grandmother to her beloved grandchildren Liam and Owen Walker, (and) Daphnée, Julien and Veronica- Maye Parenteau. A dear sister-in-law, and a loyal friend to many. Judy had a special bond with her dogs Gizmo, Chilli, and Spike and held a soft spot for her grand-fur babies.
Known for her unique personality and strong spirit, Judy had a remarkable ability to bring laughter and humour to any situation. She was passionate about sewing, DIY projects, and much to her own surprise, golf. Her friends often spoke of her as a skilled golfer, always ready to share a tip or two to help improve their game.
Judy spent most of her career at Bell Canada, where she built lasting friendships before retiring in 2005. During retirement, she enjoyed many winters in Florida with Kenneth. Later, she re-entered the workforce and became a school van driver for children with special needs. Her time at Roxborough brought her a new circle of dear friends she deeply cherished.
In her final weeks, Judy was incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and support shown by family and friends. She will be remembered as a strong, funny, and loving woman. Her legacy lives on through the countless memories she leaves behind.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kathryn McFarland, Belinda Zhert and the team at the Rehab Centre, Emily Gagnon Carefor OT, the compassionate PSWs from Bayshore Home Health, and The ALS Society for their exceptional care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Héritage Funeral Complex located at 1250 Trim Road in Orleans. Words of Remembrance will be shared at 11:45AM. We invite everyone to come share stories and fond memories of Judy. In her honour, please wear bright and cheerful colours as we celebrate her life and vibrant spirit. Further details to follow
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the ALS Canada would be appreciated.

You have described her so well! We met about 15 years ago on the Metcalfe Golf course. We were matched to play with Judy and Ken. The rest is history… Ken and Moe were two peas in a pod and Judy and I hit it off instantly. All I can say is that I am so happy that our paths crossed. She will remain forever a good friend and I have lots of memories to cherish forever. Miss you lots my dear friend. Until we meet again.

Rest easy now Judy. You shared your wonderful, outgoing personality with my late husband Ken and I, both on and off the golf course. You were always ready with a wise crack, but equally as ready with sage advice. You will be missed my friend. Rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to “Red Ken”, Ashley and Emily and their families. Keep on laughing Judy,. You will be a ray of sunshine up above XO.

Judy and I, had a special friendship that grew from the love for our family. We would share stories of our weekend adventures. Her teaching Veronica-Maye to sew and me about my niece. We loved comparing what jewelry we had on. Most of all her sense of humor would bring laughter that we needed during the difficult days. Our video chats were the highlight of my day. Judy, you will be greatly missed!
My sincere condolences to Ken and the family.

Our deepest sympathies to you Kenny and family. We are thinking of you all at this difficult time.
I did Ken and Judy’s taxes for many years.
She always said as I sat down at the table “sharpen your pencil Peter, I don’t want to pay anymore money”. Her infectious laugh will never be forgotten. My sincere condolences Ken, Ashley and Emily.
