In Memory of James Clayton Young
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Clayton Young at the age of 90. A man of unwavering dedication, integrity, and passion, he lived a remarkable life filled with service, love, and music.
Clay devoted his career to both the Canadian Air Force and the American Army before continuing his service with the Canadian Federal Government. His commitment to duty and excellence was evident in all that he did. Yet, beyond his professional accomplishments, he will be most fondly remembered for his lifelong love of music. A gifted pianist, his melodies brought joy and inspiration to countless people over the span of more than 70 years. Whether playing for family, friends, or a captivated audience, his music was the true language of his soul.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret Lucy (Stoddart) Young, Clay leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories through his four children: Karen (Jeff) Anderson, John (Kim) Young, Mary (David) Taylor, and Melanie (Tom) Snyder. Caring grandfather to Kyle, Dan, Matthew, Jacob, Clayton, James, Jake, Lauren, and loved by many great grandchildren. His wisdom, kindness, and music will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Friends and family are invited to gather to honour and remember a man whose life was a symphony of services and song at Heritage Funeral Complex (1250 Trim Road, Orléans, Ontario K4A 3P7), on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 a.m., followed by reception.

Sending my deepest condolences to my good friend John and his family.
Dear Mary, Dave & the family,
I wish I could say something to help you feel better. I’m sure you, your family & siblings are reminiscing about your father and the past. Your dad was so fortunate to have you so close during these past few years. Know he is at peace with your mom and probably playing the pearly white keys for all to hear. Sending you love & positive energy for strength during this difficult time. I’m sorry to be physically far away. But know that I am thinking of you always.

Clay was my band mate and mentor. We did a bunch of gigs together in the 80s. He taught me stuff I still use today – and I think of Clay almost every time I play an 11 chord. He was kind, quiet and full of music.
Karen, so sorry for the loss of your father and please know that you and your family are in my prayers. Always cherish the good times you had together and share the great memories. My sincere condolences and please let me know if you need anything.
Condolences to you all on the loss of Clay.
I’m a neighbor of his from his house in Perth. I also knew him from going to Alzheimer’s meetings, him for Margaret, me for my husband.
I remember he had a little fire box in back of his house and would sometimes light a small fire in it. I was investigating where the smoke smell came from and found him. We sat for several hours chatting, and sipping scotch. The next time I took the scotch and we had a few more hours of reminiscing. He was a lovely person and extremely talented musician.
Rest in peace Clay
