In Memory of Geraldine “Gerry” Westcott
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Geraldine Westcott, who passed away on May 6, 2025 at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with dementia. A cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, spouse, daughter, sister, and friend, her vibrancy and love touched many lives.
Born on December 19, 1941 in Montreal, Gerry dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher. Her passion for education, her patient and gentle guidance, and her fun and creative spirit left an indelible mark on generations of students.
Beyond the classroom, Gerry found immense joy in the beauty of the natural world. She had a deep affection for flowers in bloom, beautiful trees, and the calming majesty of the ocean. She appreciated many types of music, and it often filled her home. Her greatest joy, however, was undoubtedly her family. She adored her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, embracing every opportunity to spend time with them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and fun. Her heart brimmed with pride and love for each of them uniquely. Celebrations, big or small, were always made special by her festive decorations and thoughtful touches.
Gerry was a prayerful woman of the Catholic faith, finding strength and comfort in her spirituality, which guided her through life with grace and courage.
Gerry was a true friend to many. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people, offering regular invitations to gather and a ready, listening ear. She celebrated life’s joys with enthusiasm and provided loving support during times of sorrow. Her warm smile and independent spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Geraldine is lovingly remembered by her children, Carrie (Ken), Shannon (Michael), Meghan (Jeffrey); her grandchildren, Phalen (Shawn), Tristan, Carter, Lauren, Emily, Avarey, Meah, Emmett; her great-grandchildren, Ellie, Kaia; her sibling, Patricia; and nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her devoted spouse James, her precious grandson Ryan, and her dear brother Brian.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Faustina Parish, 2571 Hwy 174, Cumberland on Tuesday, May 13 at 11:00 A.M., followed by refreshments in the parish hall. An interment for family members will follow at Hope Cemetery.
Donations may be considered in Geraldine’s memory to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
Geraldine’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
