In Memory of Allan Mark Shabsove

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to Allan Mark Shabsove, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep, on July 4th, 2025.

Allan was the most affectionate “chéri d’amour” husband of Reina Brunet and truly devoted father to his children Kayla (Serge), Meesa, and Michael (Elizabeth) whom he adored. Allan was equally the very caring and loving Zayde to his three grandkids: Wyatt, Murphy, and Maude.

Allan was predeceased by his parents Sara and Hugh, and his sister Rochelle (David Greenberg). He is survived by his brothers Edward (Theresa), Joseph (Joanne), and Charles (Adrienne).

Allan was born on February 25th, 1953, and grew up in Sarnia, Ontario. In his youth, Allan worked at the local golf course and later, as a young adult, at a couple of his father’s businesses. Those interests were soon replaced by his curiosity of the flower business that was emerging in Ottawa.  Allan greatly admired his grandfather Harry (Hyman) Fine who founded Fine’s Flowers.  Eventually, Allan moved to Ottawa to work as the General Manager of the Fine’s Flowers’ maintenance department. The company became the top ranked FTD florist in Canada.

In May 1991, Allan decided to carve his own path and founded Fine Interiorscape & Maintenance which became a successful company in Ottawa. He was proud of that accomplishment.  He built relationships with his clients in a way that was consistent with the values and business acumen learned from his grandfather.  Over the years, he serviced several large companies, selected embassies, hotels, and many federal government departments.  He sold his company and retired in 2010.

Allan was a true sports enthusiast who enjoyed boating, water skiing, downhill skiing, and taking his three children to the Ottawa 67’s hockey games.  Allan had an incredible memory for numbers and could rhyme off stats about various sports and players, especially when it related to golf, his greatest passion. He spent endless hours watching golf tournaments on television. He was a proud member of the Camelot Golf and Country Club for approximately 28 years. He played golf regularly and enjoyed competing in men’s and mixed events.  Over that period of time, Allan built several enduring friendships.

In his retirement, Allan showed an increased interest in geopolitics and current events. Although he had sold his company some years ago, he still enjoyed discussing business and financial markets.

Allan will be profoundly missed by his family and many friends. A celebration of life is planned for the early Fall. Allan will always and forever be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers to the family, we ask instead that you please support your local florist by sending a plant or a bouquet to someone you love to brighten their day, just as Allan would have arranged countless times throughout his career.

A celebration of life will be planned and invitations will follow.

Dear ma tante Reina,

I found this poem and thought of you.

The moment that you left me, my heart split in two. One side filled with memories, the other side died with you. I often lay awake at night when the world is fast asleep, and take a walk down memory lane with tears upon my cheek. Remembering you is easy, I do it everyday; but missing you is a heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain. You see life has gone on without you but will never be the same.

Our deepest sympathies ma tante,
with lots of luv,
Michelle and Richard

Dear Kayla, Meesa, Michael, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Murphy and Maude.

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand. That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand. The angel said my place was ready, In Heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven Gate, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me and told me “welcome home”. So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for ever time you think of me I’m right there in your heart.

Our deepest sympathies to you all
Luv,
Michelle and Richard

Dear Reina
Great sadness and deepest sympathies for your loss. May Allan’s soul rest in eternal peace. May you and the family find courage through these times. We await your return at Camelot, Reina.

Allan is the first cousin of my husband, Lawry Slipacoff. We all grew up in the same neighborhood in Sarnia,ON, and attended elementary and high school together. Allan and Lawry were not only cousins, they were best friends and “partners in crime” participating in various shenanigans together throughout their high school years. Allan was in our wedding 48 years ago. We kept in touch with him and Reina and visited in Florida over the past few years. We were saddened to hear of Allan’s passing and will miss him greatly. Our fond memories of Allan are precious to both of us. We send heartfelt condolences to Reina and Allan’s family at this sad time.

We had many great times and fond memories growing up in Sarnia. Really enjoyed seeing and golfing with Allan in Florida a few years ago. RIP.
LENNIE Slipacoff 1st cousin.
Sarnia.

Reina, I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies to you, his children and grandchildren.

Our heartfelt condolences on your loss. Allan’s humour, generosity, and vibrant spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devoted husband, a proud family man, an entrepreneur, and a passionate golfer—all wrapped into one individual. We’ll always be grateful for his friendship and the lasting memories he gave us.

À matante Reina,

Nos plus sincères condoléances. Nous pensons à toi et à la famille. Faites-moi savoir s’il y a quelque chose qu’on peut faire pour toi.

To Kayla, Meesa, Michael, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Murphy, and Maude, our deepest sympathies.

Love,

Michel and Nathia

My deepest sympathies to Meesa and your family. We share your pain in a loss of a loved one and are thinking of you during this most difficult time. Dan and I wish peace and comfort

With heartfelt condolences to Reina and family – I will forever cherish the many conversations and chuckles with Allan. Intelligent,,humoured and well informed. A student of geopolitics and golf among other things.. He left indelible footprints on my soul and he will be forever missed. Impossible to replace….the only person to score an albatross on number 16 at Camelot.
May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Allan’s passing . He was such a friendly & caring guy whom we met at Camelot many years ago. Condolences to Reina & family .
