In Memory of Valentine Spencer Cass
Peacefully at home Valentine Spencer Cass died in his one hundred and third year on Thursday the seventeenth of August 2023. He was predeceased by his wife of over sixty years, Jean (nee Bishop).
He was a caring father to his daughters Jane (Doug) and Jill (Percy) and a loving Grandad to James (Emma) and Kate (Alyssa).
He will be missed by his younger sister, many nephews and nieces in England and Canada. Val was born on England’s Isle of Wight on February 14 1921.
He served with the Royal Navy during World War ll, then transferred to the Canadian Navy. Retiring after twenty five years of service he worked as a computer programmer for the Federal Government in the Department of Supply and Services.
Val was a great listener, an avid sailor, gardener, handyman and photographer. He loved travelling, reading, modern technology, crossword puzzles and a good cup of tea. This wonderful man has joined his wife, parents, brother, sister, and old mates to have celebrations in the stars. At his request no service will be held.
His ashes will be returned to the Isle of Wight. The family wishes to thank the very caring Doctor G. Bonacci and his team for their understanding and support.
Val was a great Neighbour during the 25 plus yrs I have known him. A true gentleman and compassionate individual. I was proud having such a kind and helpful person living next door to me.
I remember Mr. Cass well. He had a great smile and sense of humour and, of course, his lovely British accent. He was so happy to get his 100th birthday congratulations from the Queen – a life well lived.
