In Memory of Shawn Eric Dostaler
It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our son Shawn Eric Dostaler in his 37th year.
Shawn was born April 15, 1988 in Ottawa, and lived most of his life in the Orleans, Ontario area.
Shawn is lovingly remembered with heavy hearts by his parents Jean-Pierre and Irma-Lee, his brothers Marc and Kyle(fiancee Kaylee), many aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends.
Shawn had a genuine interest in people and a curiousity for knowledge on a wide range of topics. He enjoyed visiting, and was at ease in conversations with most anyone. Shawn loved to entertain his younger cousins whenever there were family events either close to home or in Richmond, Quebec where he loved to spend time on the farm. Country living seeped into his heart and life, through time spent hanging out on the farm, listening to country music, ski-dooing in open fields along with a love for nature and gardening. Shawn was organized, and when ready, knew how to go about executing a task or project. He loved to tinker with motors, electronics, and could be counted on to McGyver something together to get it working. He will be remembered for his smile, vibrant spirit and energy, his wit and telling of his latest discovery of something he had researched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Complex located at 1250 Trim Road, Orleans, ON, followed by a small reception. We welcome you to join in sharing fond memories of our Shawn or to simply enjoy listening to others reminisce during this gathering. For those unable to attend, the funeral service may be streamed virtually by following the link listed below.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charitable organization of your own choosing.
“To the living, I am gone,
To the sorrowful, I will never return,
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea,
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity,
Remember me.
Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.”
My sincerest condolences to you Irma and Peter, Marc and Kyle. Seems like forever ago since I’ve seen any of you, but know that you have my sincerest sympathies in this tragic loss. Shawn was a great kid. Life is cruel at the best of times.

Sending you and all of Shawn’s loved ones my deepest condolences on your immeasurable loss.
I hope your happy memories will help to get you through this.
To Irma-Lee, J-P, Marc and Kyle. I’ve been thinking of all of you and wish to express my deepest condolences. My memories when I lived on Proulx Drive were of seeing a young Shawn always busy doing something – often in the garage working under the hood of a vehicle. He was energetic and always seemed eager to help out and learn new things. I also remember his beautiful smile. I’m so sorry for your loss. Anne Laviolette

Rest in peace, Shawn.
J-P & Irma Lee,
We can’t imagine what you are feeling and would like to be able to take the pain away. Last time we saw Shawn and your boys Mark & Kyle was when you first moved into your home. Graciously having a meal and trying to get the kids to sit properly at the table. The kids all grown now.
We are coming back from our cottage to hopefully attend Shawn’s celebration of his life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
