In Memory of Rowan “Roro” Gregory Wylie

It is with great sadness that we share that our dear, sweet, Rowan has finally found peace with this world following a very short stay of a few hours in hospice at Roger Neilson House, in Ottawa. Rowan took his last breath and passed away surrounded by loved ones after a 58 day stay on a ventilator in the intensive care unit of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa. He’s at peace now following respiratory failure & complications from treatments for his infantile spasms – a rare but serious type of epilepsy he developed at six months old.

Our beautiful, bright, shiny boy will forever be in our hearts. We find comfort knowing he’s finally getting rest. Rowan is the strongest person we’ve ever known. His life was much too short but his impact was great.

Rowan loved snuggles, ducklings, kitties and originally, laughing. We can learn a lot from his courageous battles from his first days of life to his last, but these will not define him. The world was a better place for having had Rowan, and we hope he can better enjoy the world now that he has left. Roro was beautiful, angelic, sweet and bright. Shiny.

He leaves behind so many people having passed away at such a young age, including his mother (Kristen Hilderbrand), father (Patrick Wylie) and twin two-year old brother (Avery Wylie). His loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins miss him dearly. Although many people never had a chance to meet Rowan in the times that he was born into these last two years, he loved his Great-Aunts, Great-Uncles, Great-Grandmother and their families.

Rowan’s extended family in many ways over the last two years were the nurses, doctors, therapists, support workers and care teams at CHEO & beyond.  In lieu of flowers donations in his name could be made to the CHEO Foundation, Roger Neilson House, Infantile Spasm Action Network, Canadian Down Syndrome Society and/or Epilepsy Ottawa. Cremation has taken place with ashes to be scattered at a later date. No services are currently planned. A memorial bench is to be installed at Mer Bleue boardwalk.

Daffodils and tulips, those will forever be your flowers.

We love you, Rowan, with every breath we have left in us and well after our last breath ends. We love you monkey. Keep shining.

Sweet Rowan, Sweet Rowan, we miss you.

RoRo Row your boat gently down the stream.

Rest well, finally, sweet boy. Keep shining bright. Night night.

Rowan “Roro” Gregory Wylie, age 2. Born December 17th 2020 – Died February 8th 2023.
