In Memory of Ronald George Mavis

Ron passed away peacefully on Saturday September 7, 2024, just months before his 91^st birthday.  He was born on December 10, 1933 to Dorothy and Ernest Mavis. He married Lee on October 20, 1956 and they were married until Lee passed away in 2008.  Since then, he has kept busy with family, friends, travel and gardening.  He had perfected the art of puttering around.  Ron was a life-long native of the Ottawa area; he volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Ottawa General Hospital.  He is survived by his three sons, Brian and husband Steven Stauff of Lansing Michigan, Michael and wife Janet of Almonte Ontario, and Mark and husband René Gélinas of Mandeville Quebec, as well as his grandchildren Gillian and Derek and let’s not forget granddogs Biscuit and Pippin.  He had a brother Clifford and two sisters, Joan Lacelle and Gloria Irvine.  He is survived by his sister Gloria and her husband Barry of Ottawa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

If you knew Ron, you know he loved a nightcap before bed, playing euchre, chip wagons, cable news and a good laugh.  He did not like romantic comedies, anything lemon-flavored, squirrels, giving directions or smiling for photographs.  He was content with most everything else. Spending time with family and friends was very important to him. Ron loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was born with the heart of an adventurer, and though his opportunities were limited, hunting or fishing trips with his buddies were among his favorite memories.

Ron will be next to his wife at Capital Memorial Gardens.  Although Ron doesn’t need anything now, there are many who do. If you want to make a donation in his memory, he suggested Meals on Wheels or the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
