In Memory of Robert (Bob) Woods
Our beloved and dependable Husband, Daddy, Grampa, Uncle and friend Bob passed away suddenly and peacefully while having a cup of tea and reading. Survived by his wife Barbara (Barbie) and adored by his daughters Jennifer (Shawn) and Amy. His grandchildren and pride and joy – Josh (Zoe), Megan, Story and Rashelle, also Grampa Bob to Mya and Emma. Uncle Bob to many nephews and nieces who looked up to him and a dear friend to people near and far.
He was always looking for a pickleball time slot and loved curling, biking, walking, travelling and storytelling.
Bob volunteered right until the very end. Dedicated and helpful, patient and loving he always greeted you with a smile and open arms. You could also spot Bob in a crowd, it wasn’t very often that he went out without his red hat.
To honour Bob’s wishes his family will celebrate his life privately. In lieu of flowers or donations, please think of Bob often and be kind to everyone you meet.
Deepest condolences Barb, Jenn, Amy & family. Our thoughts and payers are with you all🙏❤️
Barbara, Jennifer, Amy and Family,
Sending you our most heartfelt condolences in the passing of a very dear friend. His sudden departure is being felt deeply by everyone who knew him. We have a hard time believing that Bob will not be seated at our table on Saturday nights, the night we learned new card games from our beloved friend. His parting words to us the very day he passed was « Don’t drink water from a plastic bottle ». We are still in total disbelief. We miss you already, Bobby. RIP dear Bob.

I only knew Bob from Pickleball at the Orleans Tennis Club and François Dupuis recreation centre but he was a kindred spirit Pickleball was a shared passion and he was a wonderful team mate and worthy opponent. Not only was he a committed player but a willing volunteer whenever the need would arise – rolling up windscreens end of season at the OTC was but one example.
We pickleball players at Francois Dupuis and the OTC will miss him dearly. Our sincere condolences to the family on their loss.
My dearest sympathy to his wife Barb, his two daughters Jennifer and Amy, his grand children Josh, Megan, Story and Rashelle. Bob was a great neighbor I ever had. Always helped me when I needed help. I like to talk with him and spend time with him. He is a very kind man. He will be missed by everyone that he met. Rest in peace Bob. Thanks for helping me when I needed your help. Gone too fast but there is nothing we can do. You are now with your parents. Will miss you. Hope you meet your parents and recognize them. Thank you for everything. Your neighbor Francine.
My sincere condolences to the family. Bob was such a gentleman on and off the court and loved by all. He will be missed.
Bob was my boss, mentor and friend for many years while working and after retirement he was our retiree group’s organizer and leader. He will be missed around the table.
Personally, I have never met a more honest and caring person who was always willing to listen and help. I am certain Bob will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
I want to express my sincere condolences to Barbara, Jennifer , Amy and the entire family who have lost a very proud husband, father , and grandfather. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
I and our group will frequently think of Bob because it would not be possible to forget his positive impact on everyone around our table.
I’m very saddened to hear Bob just left this world! I always very much appreciated his warm smile and his enthusiasm when we played pickleball together. I’m also amazed how good his memory as he remembered my name, often we don’t remember each other name. He will be missed. Rest in peace dear Bob.

I played some drop-in pickleball with Bob and saw him in and around the Ottawa pickleball community. He had that gentle, happy twinkle in his eye. Kind and easy to like. He made people around him feel comfortable.
Always a pleasure to be around.
My condolences to Bobs family. . .
So sad to hear about Bob’s passing away. I had the pleasure to know him at the pickleball court. He was very kind, caring and always greeted people around him with a smile. My condolences to the family. Rest in Peace Bob!
My sincere condolences to the family. We are going to miss his good humour and smile at the curling rink.
A kind and gentle soul who always arrived at the pickleball court with a generous smile and a kind heart. I can only imagine the warmth you brought to your family as they were your heart and soul. My deepest sympathies for the family.
To Barbara & family
It was with deep sadness that I heard of Bob’s passing. Being good friends to my in-laws (Aline & Bill Foster), you shared lots of memories and he will be greatly missed.
Having lost my husband a few months ago, I share you my strength and courage to help you get through these most difficult times.
With heartfelt condolences ,

My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Barbara and family. I was blessed to have Bob as my Director at PMRA. He was one of kindest most generous men I had the pleasure of knowing.
He had a special way of putting people at ease. When my mother passed away in 2000, he gave me words of encouragement and truly meant what he said.
My heart is a little heavier today with this news but my life is certainly richer having known him.
I will always remember and cherish our time at pickleball, especially when the rotation matched me, you and two other players and you will say: ‘Mo, me and you’. Then we would talk about curling, tennis and other sports. Hey, we even talked about cataract surgeries.
You were a perfect gentleman and the pickleball family at Francois Dupuis Community Centre are proud to have met you and have you as a dear friend.
Rest in peace, Bob.

Always cheerful, always smiling, always helpful and humble, I welcomed Bob as my pickleball partner or opponent. He made the day brighter by just being with him. He deserved to leave us so peacefully. My heartfelt condolences to his family at this sad time.
The Sunday men’s pickleball league has lost a treasure. Your warm, friendly and competitive nature was a pleasure to experience.
To Bob’s family, I give my deepest condolences. I curled in the same NRC curling league with Bob for several years. He was a true gentleman. A strong competitor but always gracious, win or lose. Of the ice, I liked to share travel stories with Bob. The world could use more like him and I am sad to hear of his passing.
I only knew Bob at Pickleball and he was always a delight to play with. Encouraging, patient and kind. He knew that the main goal was to have fun while staying active.
I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences go out to his beautiful wife, children, family and friends.
Dearest Barb & Family, we were looking at all the photos of times we shared with Bob. Over the years, the ups and downs of life in so many ways, always laughter, remembering the good times. Bob was always interested in what was happening in your life. He had a special gift of ‘telling a story’, a joke, something to make you laugh. In a way, our Old Gang is a Family. We all share in your grief and hope you will find comfort in our friendship still there after all these years.
I knew Bob when he worked at Health Canada as a Director. Always positive, always helpful, unpretentious, a gentleman, and a gentle man, and just an all around great guy. The world probably needs more Bob!
My very sincere condolences to the entire family.
My deepest sympathies to Barbara and family. I curled with Bob for many years at the RCMP Curling Club. He was a great competitor…win lose or tie he always did it with grace and with a smile on his face. He will be missed on and off the ice. Rest in peace my dear friend.
Dear Barbara, Jennifer, Amy and family, Please accept my sincere sympathies for your immense loss. I can only imagine the big hole in your hearts. I hope the wonderful memories he has left you bring some comfort. I know that I will remember him as a caring friend, curling partner, pickleball enthusiast and a wonderful human being always kind to others.
Cher Bob, Tu vas tellement me manquer. Sais que tu as enrichi ma vie avec ta gentillesse et ton amitié. J’anticipais de passer tellement plus de temps avec toi à jouer au curling et pickleball. Repose en paix mon cher ami.
Claire
Our deepest condolences to the family. Bob’s smile, kindness, and spirit will be with us in the curling lounge.

I was very fortunate to be a friend of Bobs. I admired his zest for life. He introduced me to his story telling group. He was a kind and loving man. He will be in my heart forever. RIP
So sad to hear about Bob’s passing. Our deepest condolences to Barb and the family. We knew Bob as a neighbour and as a fellow pickleball player at OTC. He was always very kind and caring. Rest in peace Bob!
My sincere condolences to all family and friends. I only had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Bob. I met him through Jo-Anne, Estelle and Martin. We were helping Jojo with her garage. In just a couple of hours I could see how likeable he was. He had a hell of a sense of humour, and oh boy could he sure move. I couldn’t believe he the way he was moving for his age! – Rest easy Bob.
Barb, Jennifer, Amy and Family:
Our hearts are broken at the loss of your husband, father, grandpa, uncle and dear, dear friend. Dick and I have been on several trips with Bob and Barb, one very special one that Bob did all the arrangements for was the trip to Ecuador, the Galapagos and Brazil where we went to visit friends Ken and Maria. It was an amazing trip, it was a private tour with just the four of us and our guide and driver. They taught us a card game called Cuarenta in English 40. The six of us played it every night and the four of us played it all the airports while we were waiting for our next flight. Bob loved playing cards. Bob was a great person, helped many people and we know he will be missed by all, family and friends. Carole and Dick
Dearest Barb, Jennifer, Amy and family. We are heartbroken and saddened by the sudden passing of Bob. We have such wonderful memories of times spent together over the many years. Especially remembered is our road trip to Florida with stops at Luray Caves, Nashville, New Orleans, Panama City (Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville) and finally Cape San Blas. Bob would wake up early, walk to the little donut shop and bring back freshly baked croissants for our breakfast.
He was a gentleman, a true friend, always willing to help. Kind and caring.
We will miss you, Bob.
Like many others here before me my association with Bob began and ended with Pickleball. We played too many matches to remember, first at Francois Dupuis Rec Centre then at the Orléans Tennis Club. He was a worthy opponent and a very capable partner. Whether he hiked to the gym, or rode his bike to the Tennis Club he was always in good spirits, and happily engaging his fellow fanatics in one story or another, He always had a smile on his face, and a kind word for his companions. I did not know much about Bob, but he did mention frequently his “girls” and how much he enjoyed their visits. My sincere condolences to his family. I’ll be thinking of Bob the next time I lace up my Pickleball shoes.
To all the family , my deepest condolences. Bob was always so accommodating to when I needed a hand . He last helped me put the new fire detectors up.
He always had a smile on his face and a kind word. I will miss seeing him in the garage and on his deck reading a book.
Barb as my sister (Red Hat) , I will be here for a cup and a chat at any time.
Thinking of you.
Dianna
A wonderful genuine and generous man, we could not have asked for a greater friend. Always available to help with any task, always ready for a thoughtful conversation and always ready to tell a corny joke. He was a constant in our lives, patient, cheerful and warm. We will struggle without him but we know that he will always be with us. Our family and community is diminished by his absence; but we are stronger for having known him. His smile made us feel welcomed and special. We will miss him tremendously.
Cy and Lynn Jennings
I knew Bob for a very short time. But in that time I saw a kind and gentle man who always had a smile.
My condolences to you Barbara and your family.
Dear Barb and family:
I was so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of your dear husband, Bob. Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of such a wonderful man. Bob was a true gentleman, and was one of the kindest people I ever met. May your thoughts and memories of your life together eventually bring you comfort and peace. Rest in peace dear Bob.

Dear Barbara – Sending love, thoughts, and prayers to you and your family during this very sad time. Bob was such a big part of our curling family and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing such a wonderful man. Hugs
Bob always greeted me with a smile on his face and a warm hug. Being a member of the NRC curling league at the RCMP curling club, I usually ran an event, the HOT SHOTS competition, before our Christmas and end of the year banquets. Bob always was the first one to sign up for it and volunteered to help out with the event. Such a kind and caring person. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. We will miss you Bob.
Dear Barb
We were shocked and saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. He was a good man and we are so sorry for your loss. We will all feel that loss and miss him dearly.
Bob was devoted to his girls… Barbie, Jenn and Amy. He had many good friends and we were blessed to be counted amongst them.
We know that Bob was very community minded and Ed & I feel a need to do something. We will make a donation to the food bank in memory of him.
Our deepest condolences to Barb and all the family. We didn’t see Bob often but when we did he always had a smile . Rest in peace Bob ,you will be missed by many.

My heart is with you Barb, and your family. I will think of Bob every time I walk out from my deck… May he have lots of wiener dogs around him giving him joy – I know how much he liked seeing mine when I took them out for walks! — Sue from 151
I knew Bob from pickle ball at Francois Dupuis rec centre. We both walked there, and would occasionally walk partway together on the way home. Bob was always cheerful and a pleasure to know. I saw him just last week, apparently only a few days before the end, and he was doing great. It comes as a shock. Best wishes to the family in your time of great loss.
Although I have not lived in Ottawa for almost 15 years, I remember Bob fondly as we did Tea Party shows together and worked on Festivals and other committees as well. I am deeply saddened by his death. Gentle thoughts to Barbara and the family.
OH my goodness
We at OST, and I will miss him. A quiet, cheerful helping fellow who had some delightful stories that he told in a great way.

Sending love to all the family.
So sorry for your loss. He was indeed a very nice man, as well as a fine pickleball player.
All my sympathies to the family. I knew Bob from Pickle ball. He was a nice and kind person. He will be miss dearly.

My sincere condolences to all of the Family at this terrible loss. I only had the pleasure of knowing Bob for a short time but he left an impression that will always stay with me. He always had a kind word, a smile, and a positive word of encouragement to share. I will do my best to carry those attributes forward in his memory.
Many people thought that Albert and Bob looked so much alike especially when they wore their reds baseballs hats ! They started calling each other brother ! Bob was a very nice and kind person and was like by everyone at our pickleball club ! He will be missed! Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Ginette and Albert Olivier
Robert was a kind and gentle soul. A pleasure to work with and to be around. He will be sadly missed. Our deepest condoleances to friends and family.
I first met Bob when we were both volunteering at Habitat. We passed a fun summer building 4 houses. It was always a pleasure to work with him. We reconnected when I started playing pickleball at the OTC and at François Dupuis. Again, always a pleasure. He was a really nice person and a true gentleman. I am so sorry for your loss
I knew Bob through the OST and met him at many of its events — Children’s Storytelling Festival, Story Swap, Fourth Stage and my short term on the executive. He was a great storyteller with a dry sense of humour. A quiet man who never forgot a face. My sympathies to his family.
My Deepest condolences to Woods family and friends – I worked with Bob at PMRA he was our Director leader mentor for so many. His enthusiam for life and the outdoors , how he enjoyed reading was not unoticed. His memeory will be kept alive by all those who had the pleasure to know Bob and his love for family and life.
May the wonderfull memories keep us all strong forever.
Ken and Maria Silver
Bob was a genuine good friend who did everything with 100% energy and enthusiasm. As a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity he could be relied open to be on site when he said he would. As a traveler to the far reaches of the earth to Khatmandu and and Brazil to visit us with Barb and friends Dick and Carol where he indulged in understanding the local culture. As a “Poker Night” buddy for over 40 years his innovation of the game was always entertaining, and his day trip plans for our little bike club considered each ones limitations. Bob was one of the only man I know of who it could be said “he lived life to it’s fullest”
Dear Barbara and the rest of the family, please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of Bob, who was a constant, wise, friendly, engaging, and calming presence for many years at Island Lake. As neighbours and friends, we enjoyed and were inspired by Bob’s humour and art of storytelling, and as community members, we valued his good sense and leadership on the ILPOA board, which helped us understand one another better and bring the community together around the needed solutions. Our community is left stronger for Bob and Barbara’s important contibutions – thank you!
While Bob will be greatly missed, I will continue to think of him often when I visit the lake.

Bob was a pleasant and friendly gentleman always willing to play a game of pickleball . He was eager at OTC to volunteer and never turned down a job he was asked to help with.
Bob your smile, laughter, sense of humour will be truly missed.
We will all know you are with us in spirit on the courts this summer.
Sincere Condolences to the family
My heartfelt condolences to all of Bob’s family at this time of immense loss. Bob was such a kind man; someone you always looked forward to seeing at Francois Dupuis for pickleball. I always enjoyed being both his partner and his opponent since he always had a smile on his face and maintained such a positive outlook on life. Your friends at FD pickleball are still in a state of disbelief and knowing we will not see your smiling face come through those doors again to brighten up our day is difficult to accept. Bob, you will remain forever in my heart. Thank-you for blessing us all with your friendship. Rest in Peace.
He left a kind impression on me playing pickleball. Will be missed.
Barbara and family,
Deepest condolences for the passing of Bob. We will always remember Bob for the gathering for the Island Lake events such has sliding down Dubois hill before a meeting at Martin and Estelle, organizing a diner at a restaurant and his contribution to our community.

I have memories of White Water Rafting trip where Bob was always enthusiastic for these adventures
In our young working days in the office when outdoor excitement kept us in tune with outdoor life.
Our shared support building a cabin and our respective home provided many stories especially the
building of Bob and Barb log Cabin. Bob was always ready to help. His positive attitude a real joy.
Bob was such a happy fellow at all of our NRC curling activities. We will miss him, my condolences to his family and friends.
I was very sad to learn of Bob’s passing. I’ve thought to get in touch with him a few times in recent months and wish I had.
I had the pleasure to work with Bob for a couple of years in my role with OST. I always admired his integrity, enjoyed his sense of humour, and really appreciated his patience with me as he helped me through some aspects of the job that I didn’t understand. And he was just good company.
My sympathies to Barbara and the rest of the family, as well as his friends and the team at Ottawa StoryTellers.
To the Woods family
My wife and I were very saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. We’ve only known Bob for a couple of years through our Pickleball playing at Francois Dupuis Rec Centre. We played against him and with him. It was always a joy and a laugh, and rest assured you would be ‘fighting for points’.. He loved to play and loved to have fun playing and was a very good player to boot. I’m sure I’m speaking for many of us who played with Bob at Francois Dupuis Rec Centre, when I say that he will be very much missed. RIP Sir.
