In Memory of Pierre Allen

Pierre “Pete” Allen was an amazing family man. He was a devoted husband. The love for his wife Pat, knew no bounds. He loved his family deeply and they were his pride and joy. In him, you had a caring friend for life. Pierre was a genuine, kind and noble gentleman.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that our family announces his passing on April 30th, 2024. After losing his battle with cancer, he left this world to be welcomed in heaven and into the loving arms of God. It is comforting to know that he will also be reunited with the love of his life Pat who passed 2 months ago.

Pierre was born in Gatineau, Quebec on 23 March 1940 to proud parents Hector and Amanda Allen.

Pierre accomplished many things during his lifetime though for him, his greatest achievement was to have been married to Pat for 64 years, proudly raising their sons, welcoming and enjoying spending time with their grandchildren, travelling the world and most of all, living life’s precious moments together.

Pierre will be greatly missed by his sons: Dan, James (Ruth), Ron (Lea); Grandchildren: Rob (Charlene), Mandy, Nataly, Nelly and Justine.

The family wishes to thank the Palliative Team of Doctors and Nurses who compassionately cared for Pierre at the General Hospital in his last days. We also wish to thank our extended family and caring friends for your kind words of sympathy and for keeping us in your prayers. You are all very much appreciated.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Road, Orleans, Ontario on Thursday, May 9th, 2024. Visitation begins at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 11:30am with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.

The man, the myth, the legend, I just called him Grandpa.

I remember grandpa teaching me card games like blackjack, hockey, and cribbage at the breakfast table. We would bet 5 cents per game (Grandpa provided the whole pool anyway, it was just for fun). But I loved leaving the table with a couple dollars. I would win games and I could see the competitiveness in Grandpa’s face but I was just a kid so he would say “Are you sure you’ve never played this before?” as he pointed to my cards and slid his bet towards me.

Grandpa loved classical music, I would ask his favourite composer and he would tell me a name I knew I didn’t have a hope in pronouncing. Now I wonder if my love of classical renditions of modern songs is influenced by my Grandpa. I’d like to think so. And maybe I never think a drink is strong enough because well grandpa had a heavy hand as Grandma would say and he was the first person to ever pour me a rye and coke. I thought they were all supposed to taste like that.

He was the best man I knew (other than my dad of course, who was a product of the great man). Patient, understanding, loyal and oh so loving. I hope that in the last years of my life I’m even half as playful as Grandpa was. Grandpa never failed to crack a joke about something, even on the rainy days. Legend says he invented the Dad Joke.

I am so sad, mon oncle Pierre, that you left this world but you will always be here in spirit. Your smile and laugh is something that comes to my mind first. I know that you are joined with the love of your life.
My sympathies to my cousins and their familles! Your dad is at peace. RIP

My sweet Father-in-Law (love)
My heart aches experiencing your loss and so soon after loosing Pat, my sweet Mother-in-Law (love).
I am so grateful to God and to you for having had you in my life and in the lives of our girls. You were an instrument of God’s wonderful love shown so divinely through you.
I love you more than words could ever express and I will miss you till the end of time.

We were so fortunate to have you and Pat in our lives.. You were great friends and neighbors.. We will always remember our times in Florida together. George has lost a hockey, football and baseball companion.. Many evenings were spent having a beer and cheering on their favorite teams. i always knew when their team scored, i could hear the enthusiasm load and clear upstairs. You both will be sadly missed.. Roberta and George
