In Memory of Muriel Etta Bruce
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Muriel Etta Bruce, age 75, on May 3, 2022 at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario.
Born in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Muriel was the youngest daughter of the late Merrill and Alberta (Dearing) Bruce. She had an incredibly successful career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Roseway Hospital in Shelburne for over 30 years before her retirement in 2002. Following her retirement, Muriel relocated to Ottawa where she resided with her daughter and family. Although Muriel spent the last 17 years in Ottawa, she always considered Shelburne her home. You could take the woman from the East Coast, but you could not take the East Coast from this woman. Muriel was the life of the party, and her spirit was as grand as the waters that surround Nova Scotia. She had a passion for life like no other. Whether it be jet-setting to Las Vegas, or enjoying a luxury cruise, Muriel happily embarked upon many travel adventures with friends. She also took great pleasure in spending time with family and cheering on her beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
Muriel is survived by her loving daughter, Christa Bruce (Dwayne) and granddaughter, Alexxis, who she loved with no bounds. She is also survived by brothers Hughie Bruce (Mary Lynne), Wolfville; Ross Bruce, Bedford; Herbert Bruce (Phyllis), Halifax; and sisters June Hartley (Edward), Shelburne; and Myra Bailey, Halifax; as well as many nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by siblings Sylvester Bruce, John Bruce, Frank Bruce, Linda Conrad, Owida Downey and Catherine Adams.
A funeral service will be held at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 58 Buckley St., in Shelburne, Nova Scotia on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 2:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Shelburne Lion’s Hall, 188 Elliot St., Shelburne.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
Hi Christa,
I am so sorry for your loss. Belle let me know when your mom passed away in May. I would have liked to have attended the memorial in Shelburne but didn’t know about it until today. I have very fond memories of your mom from when we were kids. Belle shared a picture of Muriel and your daughter and did they ever look alike. I hope you and your family are doing ok although I suspect you’ll need some time to get over the grief.
Take care and hopefully we can connect sometime. My cell is 902-471-9593.
