In Memory of Michel Wyczynski
The family announces with great sorrow the passing of Michel Wyczynski on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 70. He was the loving husband of Suzanne (née Laroche) for 44 years.
Michel was an archivist at the National Archives of Canada for 34 years. Among his many gifts was his talent for writing. He authored many books and articles relating to military history. He was very proud to have served for many years in the Reserves with “Le Régiment de Hull”.
Michel was a true gentleman. He was loving, caring and thoughtful, possessing a keen sense of humour. He had an undeniable strength and perseverance that allowed him to overcome many adversities. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. His memory will be forever cherished by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses of the Montfort Hospital ICU Team for their compassionate care of Michel.
A Celebration of Life for Michel will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 12 p.m., followed by a reception in the Church Hall at l’Église Sainte-Marie d’Orléans, 4831 Innes Road, Orleans. The family will receive condolences at 11a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Montfort Hospital or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
I was very saddened to hear of Michel’s passing. I’ve know Suzanne and Michel for over 40 years, and in that time, Michel was a beacon of love, intelligence and strength. No matter what challenges Michel faced, he did so with resilience and courage. His love for Suzanne was unparalleled. I hope that Suzanne’s many happy memories of her life with Michel will bring her comfort.

I was fortunate to know Michel as a colleague at the National Archives and a friend. As an archivist, a writer and communicator he was second to none. As a friend, one couldn’t ask for more. He was supportive of those who were going through difficult times — visiting them in hospital or listening on a walk together. And, then there was his sense of humour –probably the first thing many will remember. It was always quick and funny but never hurtful.
Apart from Suzanne and his family, Michel loved his militia regiment, the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders), and writing about military history among other interests.
He was among those who really “seize the day” by living life fully. His memory will bring a smile to many lips and help relieve the sadness of our loss.

en 92, NQ4 Recce au Régiment, je suis candidat (Recce) et personnel de support (Wpns Tech)… Mais ce fut la gaffe de Michaud et Gros Bras qui ont rempli leur Iltis avec du diésel; j’ai remis une solution concomitante, faire chauffer les gaffeux pour réduire au max la concentration du diésel dans le réservoir

Hi Suzanne and family. I am so sorry to hear of Michel’s passing. He was a good friend to those in the airborne regiment family. Many of his books I still have because they were a source of pride to my husband Joe as well as the many articles in the Maroon Beret magazine. I am so sorry for your loss.
I wanted to come to the memorial service today, as you and Michel were so kind to come to the memorial service of Joe, but I just got out of the hospital myself yesterday.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Michel’s passing. I first met Michel and Suzanne while attending Ottawa University in the early 197os and came to know Michel’s entire family quite well. I wish to offer my sincerest condolences to Suzanne, as well as Michel’s brothers and sisters. I was planning to attend his funeral but a sudden death in my immediate family resulted in another funeral I had to attend on the same day and time. I wish to add that I know that Michel’s late father and mother were both very proud of the person he was and the things he accomplished in his life — as we are all, and lucky to have known him.
Michasz , old friend . How many memories came to me reading this sad news . Fishing, football , army games , Polish scouts, I remember you phoned me breathless on Christmas , ” I got drums ” . How many weekends I spent at your lovely house on the river . Ha …. your dog Rex too !! Up to Nowaks’ farm – a youngster’s paradise . St Remi hockey team , your mom’s fantastic macaroni and cheese . I’m truly blessed to have shared those years mon ami , bracie .
