In Memory of Marie Carmel Jean

Peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Saturday October 8th 2022, Marie Carmel Jean left us for another great life at the young age of 69 years. Loving Mother of Patrick Jean and Kenny Duprate (LeeAnn). Dear Grandmother to Davina, Akeysha, Estevan, Deilan, Amero and all extended family and friends whom she adored and will carry on her legacy.

Marie was born in Port au Prince,  Haiti and moved to Canada when she was 10 years old. From a young age, Marie learned to survive. It was this early struggle that shaped Marie into the strong willed, independent, loving mother, grandmother and friend that she was, which she maintained until the very end. Marie supported, defended, loved and prayed for everyone around. It was her love and connection to God that allowed her to accomplish her purpose in life to serve others.

For anyone who knows Marie, we know she lived a full life. She was always smiling and laughing.  At every family event, she was the life of the party and you would find her dancing in the living room with a glass of red wine in hand or cooking the best haitian food. She adored cooking for her family and most of all spending time with them. Marie’s mentionable accomplishments include La Camilla, one of Ottawa’s first successful Haitian restaurants.

As she was a woman with many talents, she also studied to be a florist and a personal support worker. Marie spent the last 17 years caring for people in their most vulnerable moments, waking up at 4 in the morning and arriving home from her day at 11pm. Marie was a role model who was loved and admired by all those around her. She always showed up whenever you needed her and was  always there to offer a helping hand and words of wisdom. For anyone who didn’t like her (and I can’t think of anyone), she didn’t care anyway. She was the type of woman who spoke her mind, knew what she wanted, always carried herself with dignity and dressed to impress whatever the occasion. She even picked out her own dress for her final resting place. That was Marie, the matriarch to our beloved family. She will be forever missed and remembered.

We invite all who loved Marie on Friday, October 21st, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Rd., Orléans, from 6pm to 9pm for a visitation to reminisce, grieve and support each other.

Join us to celebrate Marie’s life and her strength on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 as we say goodbye to our own saint Marie Carmel Jean. A Funeral mass will be held at Paroisse St Joseph, 2757 St-Joseph Blvd., Orléans at 1pm . We ask our saviour to open the gates of heaven so that our sweet angel may rest in peace in her rightful kingdom with our heavenly father.

Following the funeral, join us as we will celebrate and honour her legacy, share and encase the memories we have created with it. This will be a day to remember, to laugh, to pray, to cry and ultimately come together in love in which food, music and good company will be provided. We invite you to bring your favourite pictures, videos and stories to share. To our one and only Marie Carmel Jean, Rest in Paradise.
