In Memory of Leonard (Len, Lenny) Larmour
With great sorrow we inform you that Len unexpectedly passed away in his 76th year following complications arising from lung surgery at the Ottawa General Hospital.
Originally from Montreal, Len lived in Brockville, Ottawa and Cumberland. Len’s first job was as a draughtsman. He hired on with Canadian National in Montreal where he became a railroad engineer. He later moved to Via Rail where he spent the rest of his 32 year railroad career.
An avid fisherman, Len transferred to Brockville to be close to the fish he loved to catch. Many of his off duty hours were spent on the waters of the St Lawrence and Lake Ontario even starting a fishing charter business.
After a final transfer with Via to Ottawa, Len established Professional Renovation Services, fulfilling his first love of doing high quality renovation and cabinet making, only retiring from this at the age of 74.
Len was known for his big heart. He rarely said no to anyone who needed a job, some extra cash or a place to stay. His home was almost always home to someone who needed a place to stay for a day, a week, a month or even longer. This included animals as well. Generally he and Sandi bought their dogs, everything from a St Bernard to Springer Spaniels and Golden Retrievers and a series of cats. At least one dog and one cat wandered in off the street and decided Len’s open house invitation applied to them as well. He will be much missed by his white Golden Retriever, Sallie.
Len is survived by his wife of 54 years Sandra (Sandi) (Joly), niece Tammy Grinsell (Don Darou), sister-in-law Carol Fullerton, nephew Michael Hinde and great nieces Laura and Kristyn.
Len was predeceased by his parents George and Marguerite (Dillen) Larmour of Morrisburg and his sisters, Rosemarie Henophy (Larmour) of Morrisburg and Edythanne Paullin (Larmour) of Chateauquay.
Len passed away on July 5th at the Ottawa General Hospital. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the caring nurses in the Observation Unit on D6. They are a special team and are deserving of much love and respect.
A memorial service/Celebration of Life will be held on 30 July at 2:00 Pm at Heritage Funeral Home at 1250 Trim Road in Orleans.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to: the nurses of the Observation Unit, 6th floor, Ottawa General Hospital, 501 Smythe Rd, Ottawa, On K1H 8L6.
