In Memory of Krystyna Schwilden

After a tough battle with cancer “beast” as she called it, we are saddened to announce that Krystyna (Krishou) Schwilden passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

“Babcia” absolutely adored, and will forever be loved and cherished by her grandkids: Patrick, Sacha, Ava, Julia and Siena, her daughters-in-law: Enrica and Christine, her sons: Henri and Mark, her husband and life-partner for over 50 years, René. She also leaves behind to mourn her sister, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, and all her family and friends here and abroad.

She was an active golfer, dedicated snowbird (leaving many friends in Fort-Pearce, FLA), and generally a beacon of light and joy for everyone she met.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Heritage Funeral Complex (1250 Trim Rd, Orleans) on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  At the request of the family, attendance will be for fully vaccinated guests only.  Advanced registration is not required.  Guests must supply proof of vaccination, photo ID and wear a mask.

A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Saint Hyacinth Roman Catholic Polish Church, 201 Lebreton St N, Ottawa, ON.  Capacity limits apply at the church.

Due to current restrictions, a celebration of Krishou’s life will be organized by her family in the spring.

Donations in Krystyna’s memory may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, to CHEO, or to a charity of your choice and would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences

Dear René, Henri, Mark, Irena and family,
We will always have fond memories of the good moments we shared with Krystyna, René and her family, both here and in Florida.
May she rest in peace and protect all of us.

What a beautiful and wonderful friend she was…she will surely be missed…my condolences to Rene and family.

My beautiful friend,
How can I thank you for all the memories and love that you have given me these past 45 years. You not only welcomed Bernard into your family in December 1969 when you and Rene picked him up at the airport from France but 6 years later you also welcomed me in into your family when Bernard met. . My two girls Emilie and Caroline followed and while they are 43 and 36 today, they continue to call you Chrichou and so appreciative that you, Rene and your family have embraced them and considered us as part of your family. Thank you my dear friend for the precious moments we have spent together, your guidance, your words of wisdom, your kindness and our silly moments ( lots of wine, snowshoeing and kayaking at Trout Lake). I miss you terribly but I take comfort knowing that your spirit is now within us and that we will continue to honour you as you deserve. With love and thank you
Anne

To the Schwilden family:

Jane and I pass our condolences to Rene and all of Krystyna’s family. We first met Krystyna by odd coincidence in her early days in Ottawa.

The mailman, noting that a letter was addressed to Krystyna Ficner on Fifth Avenue, believed it had been sent to the wrong address and so he delivered it to my parents, Kazimierz and Margaret Ficner on Fourth Avenue.

A friendship formed and continued over many years.

Jane and I attended her wedding to Rene (a kind and welcoming man) – as well as the small reception at a house in the Glebe that was filled with the warmth of friends and supplied with good Polish food.

While our lives took us in our own directions, a sense of family and friendship remained.

I last spoke with Krystyna last year, and again felt the warmth and welcoming that one gets from a person who really cares.

We wish all of Krystyna’s family the best in these difficult times – and we hope that all enjoy the comfort of the happy memories that come from the time that they shared with Krystyna.

God bless you all.

Jane and Charles Ficner

I was privileged to be Krishou’s Nurse in her last days. She and her family are loving people, accommodating and lively . I can feel her sweet soul in every word as she softly speaks in my entire time caring for her. Krishou, I miss you so much! Rest on dear Krystyna.
