In Memory of Kenneth Allen Rose

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of Kenneth Allen Rose at the age of 78. Ken passed away peacefully on February 17, surrounded by family.  Beloved husband of 48 years to Edith Rose (Boulianne). Loving father to his daughter Michelle (Jamie) and son Kevin (Jordan), and grandfather to Katherine, Bradley, Matis, Tristan, Tripp and Jaxxden. He leaves in sorrow his brothers Jack (Sandra) and Peter (Elaine); his sister-in-law Line (Hamish); his brothers-in-law Marcel (Nicole), Normand (Janis), Daniel (Danielle), André (Lise); and all their families.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Line for the help and special care she provided to Ken in his final days.

Born on December 5, 1944 in Scarborough, Ont., Ken son of Frederick and Gladys Rose made an impression wherever he went, whether it was during his 18 years living and teaching in Kapuskasing, Ont., or here in Orleans, Ont. An avid golfer and music lover, Ken was a natural teacher and he will be missed by all he touched throughout his life journey.

In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario would be appreciated. To honour Ken’s love for storytelling, the family invites you to share your cherished stories and special memories on this site.

Condolences

Goodbye Ken, I knew you all your life and couldn’t ask for a better brother, playmate and friend. We had many good times growing up in Scarborough whether it was picking apples and pears from our farmer neighbors trees, making forts and dugouts in our property, learning how to ride bikes and delivering papers. It was all fun and you were always up for fun and adventure, Sometimes it got us in trouble but we always survived. We learned valuable lessons as young entrepreneurs with our paper routes that gave us money to buy new bikes and have a treat at Hartigans store. on the corner.

As we grew older our paths went separate ways but we never parted though there was a distance between us we retained our closeness. The stories we would tell and remembrances of earlier days could not be forgotten, we always had interesting adventures and stories to tell of people we met and situations we got into.

You had a natural ability to learn and play music like our grandfather, I had the same desire but not the capability and I was rejected from violin lessons whereas you went on to accomplish the instrument and teach many others its intricacies, a teaching skill I do not possess but you did and I was proud of you for it.

Please go in peace and happiness know that you will always be in our thoughts.

Jack, Sandra, Laura, (Ken), Bryan (Ada) and grand nephews Jack & Cameron

For a very long time, you were the only father I had.

Thank you for all the lessons, guidance and support you gave me over the years. It always meant a lot to me that you took the time to be a teacher with me.

After all, that’s what you were best at!

Ken, Edith, Louise, Bob, Rejeanne, Denis and Denis and I shared many great times together. We’d get together on weekends to play games and of course the boys always tried to change the rules. We’d decide on the spur of the moment at 9 at night to go sleep in Timmins for the fun of it. Never a dull moment with this gang.

Ken was a kind soul, with a great sense of humour, a super father and husband and an awesome friend. He was also an excellent teacher who had a positive impact on so many.

He was a trooper to the very end. His diminished physical abilities did not take the spark out of him. He enjoyed having us chit chat with him while he was in his bed. He took everything in stride and went on with his days.

Thank you Ken for your friendship and the many wonderful memories. You will always be fondly remembered

Bonjour Edith !

Ken you came from the big city and adapted to our lives in a small town.
You knew you had to learn French to be part of our family. How could my dad say no to you when you propose to Edith. Now that’s Love.
You were my friend, my teacher, sometimes my dad. Thank you for being a good example for us to follow. Thank you for loving and caring for my sister a perfect couple in my eyes.
Thank you for teaching us how to speak English and my favorite sport skiing.
Line

Ken thank you for being a great brother in law son in law husband and father. You were always there for us in the many adventures we shared in the Boulianne family. You took great care of our dear sister and were a wonderful example for your children. I remember you wanting to feed us so we could get some meat on our skinny bones as youngsters. You were such a good son in law and took great care of mom and dad like they were your own parents. And as mentioned above you did a great job as a father as your own children and grandchildren grew up to be great people. You will undoubtedly leave a positive impression on your many students as I remember people in Kap talking about you. in a respectful manner. And also we enjoyed your sports endeavours as a younger athlete.. I am perfectly sure we couldn’t have asked for a better brother in law but we really considered you a brother in our family.. Thank you for a great life and time together.. RIP Ken we will miss you. Love you

Nos plus sincères sympathies à toi Edith, à vos enfants et leurs familles. Nos pensées sont avec vous tous xo

I have so many great memories with uncle Ken and tante Edith, Michelle and Kevin. My sincerest profound condolences on the loss of a great man, teacher, and story teller. He loved boating and always took the time to bring us outdoors as a kid and into my adult life. Always time well spent with uncle Ken.

My sincere condolences to all of you. I have a vivid memory of Mr. Rose’s letting his grade 7 class watch hockey at school one afternoon. The class exploded in cheers and were jumping around in 1972 when team Canada won against team Russia. I was in the Grade 2 class below! I always thought Mr. Rose was the coolest & nicest teacher.
I also have fond memories of the Boulianne family as our neighbours in Kapuskasing. I remember Mr. Rose picking up Edith when they were just a young couple. Thinking of you all with deepest sympathy.

Mr. Rose was my absolute favourite teacher. He taught me in Grade 4 at DJPS in Kapuskasing. He was also my next door neighbour for a brief time! I will always remember him as kind, genuine and oh so funny! He is probably one of the reasons that I’m a teacher today. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May he rest in peace. ❤️
