In Memory of Joan Bedford
Passed away on September 3, 2024.
Daughter of the late Kathleen Christian and of the late Ernest Collquitt Bedford.
Joan will be remembered for her strong ethical values, her sharp wit and great sense of humour. She loved learning and studied accounting at night school while working for the government during the day. She also studied French during her career days. She was proud to be bilingual and spoke French whenever the opportunity arose. She was self-reliant and independent, having purchased several homes on her own. She has a keen sense of style which manifested itself through her elegant wardrobe and a dedication to gardening and landscaping. She loved classical music in the form of symphany, opera, jazz and Broadway shows, often travelling to Toronto and New York to see her and hear the best. She loved visiting Europe for its history and architecture. She loved animals and was a proud “mother” of several pairs of white cats during her lifetime. She was a fund raiser and member of the Ottawa Humane Society. Joan was also a member of the Cultural Centre of the University of Ottawa.
A visitation will be held at St. Joseph Church, 151 Laurier Ave. East, Ottawa on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. Interment Dale Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.
Joan always greeted our family with a smile and kindness. A donation to the Ottawa Humane Society had been made in her memory. Rest in peace.
