In Memory of Fredric Stephen Odoysk

1942 - 2024

We sadly announce dad’s passing on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. After a yearlong battle with lung cancer Fred died peacefully with family by his side.

Survived by his best Christmas gift ever, his daughter Natalie (Marc Péladeau), his brother Dennis, nephews, great-nieces and cousins. He was saddened by the loss of his son Stephen in 1996 and is also predeceased by his mother May, father John, sister Diane and former spouse Sandra (nee Carvish).

Fred spent 38 years with Statistics Canada, and organized many bowling and Drawbacks curling events, before retiring in 1999. He enjoyed 24 years in retirement and spent his seasons golfing and curling. He planned many StatsCan retirees luncheons and misses and appreciates all who attended.

Lifelong friend of Ruth and Bert Lewis. Fred was thankful for many work, golf and curling friends, particularly Dave and Jim, and wonderful and caring neighbours. “I don’t feel as though I have earned all the friends that I have.”

Home Care allowed Fred to stay in his home until the end. Thanks to many who cared for him; especially nurse Jenalyn and Dr Brodeur and to the MAID program that allowed dad a peaceful journey to his next destination. Prior to his passing, Fred chose to donate his body to the Faculty of Medicine/Anatomy at the University of Ottawa for educational and research purposes.

We are so sorry for your loss. I’ve always had such fon memories of how kind your dad was to Riley, we still have the ice storm certificate. Our condolences to all who are hurting, all who loved him.

So sorry Natalie and family to hear of your loss. I met your Dad through our careers at Statistics Canada. We both shared a love of curling which brought us together outside of work. It was nice to reconnect with Fred at our semi-annual STC luncheons which your Dad organized for many years. May you find comfort that he is at peace after a tough battle.
