In Memory of Frances Wood
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Frances Ann Wood at the age of 91.
Frances was born in 1932 on a farm near Blenheim Ontario to Thomas and Bonita Pegg. She was the youngest of three daughters; her sisters Margaret and Ruth are pre-deceased. She was proud to be a Southern Ontario farm girl and already driving her Dad’s tractor as a youngster.
After high school, she attended Ryerson College and graduated as a dietitian in 1953. At Ryerson, she met Gerald Wood, a handsome young lad from Nova Scotia. They married in 1954 and moved to Ottawa. At first she worked as a hospital dietitian but soon they started a family having three children – Tom, Bonny, and Annette. Sadly, Gerry died in 1983 but, with great courage and resilience, Fran picked up the pieces and flourished again.
Fran was extremely creative with an artistic eye. She took great pleasure in her gardens, drawings, quilting and knitting. It seems she always had several projects on the go. She was very active in her church and a keen bridge player. But most of all, she was a devoted Gramma to Ben, Greg, Shelby, Jeff, and Amy, and Great Gramma to Jace, Paisley, and Wednesday.
Her last year was spent at Stirling Park Retirement Home, and we wish to thank the Memory Care staff for the tremendous care she received
A funeral celebrating Fran’s life will take place at Rothwell United Church, 42 Sumac St, on Friday, 7 April 2023 at 2pm.
I am so sorry to hear this news of Fran. It brings back lots of memories of life in Cardinal Heights. At the time of Ruth’s wedding, I had the pleasure of visiting the farm where the girls grew up and meeting their parents. Fran always had a cheery smile to brighten the lives of others.
