In Memory of Douglas Taylor-Munro

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Taylor-Munro on Sunday, June 26, 2022 in his 75th year. Surrounded by his family, Doug passed peacefully at home after a short battle with illness. Doug was the loving husband of Judith (JJ) Taylor-Munro for 52 years, cherished father to son Chris Taylor-Munro (Anastasia), daughter Kelly Rego (Jason), and special ‘grampa’ to Milliana (Millie). Much loved brother to Sheryl Taylor-Munro, Barbara Jones, Ross Taylor-Munro (Anna), and predeceased by his sister Susan Taylor-Munro. Dear brother-in-law to Robert and Margie Woollerton.

Doug served 22 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and retired as a Major before enjoying his second career as an Archivist with Library and Archives Canada. His many passions over the years included building and flying remote controlled model airplanes, boating on the Rideau Canal, and reading, cooking and baking. Doug’s love for music lead him to playing in several bands and listening to a wide array of music with a glass of wine outside on many evenings. Doug had a love for all creatures great and small, particularly the many pets he and JJ homed over their years together. Visitation will be at the Heritage Funeral home 1250 Trim Rd Orleans ON, on Thursday July 21, 2022 from 12 p.m-2 p.m followed by a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society in honour of Doug would kindly be appreciated.

Dear JJ, Kelly and Chris – our prayers go out to you at this time; we think of your kindness to Sean often. You can be sure that Doug was greeted by Sean at Heaven’s gate, and the two of them caught up on old times. All our love, RIck and Sharron

So sad to hear of Doug’s passing. We were best of ‘buds’ through our five years at CMR and RMC. Such a smart talented man. Rest In Peace Doug. Thinking of you JJ in your time of loss.
Love and hugs
Grant and Pam

Oh JJ, Chris and Kelly, I am so very sorry. Doug was a lovely man and he will be missed. I’m so very glad Chris and Stacy got home when they did and you all had a good visit. I am sure you created even more wonderful memories. You especially are in my thoughts JJ. I wish I could be there to give you a hug. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Doug.

Reading Doug’s obituary of course brought back many memories of the three of us older children growing up (Doug, Susan, and me).

Doug as the ‘big brother’ was expected to keep Sue and me in line, but that was always going to be a losing cause.

For music he started out with his electric guitar with his group The Embers.

In high school, Doug joined his high school band playing the tuba: it seemed almost as big as him!

When he was stationed in Germany, he joined an OomPaPa band which allowed him to travel to places he might not have otherwise.

Now I see Doug playing up a storm, entertaining a whole new audience 🎶

Doug and I shared many times together being irreverent cadets but still dedicated to the cause! His decision to marry JJ before we graduated spured me to my 6th of June wedding to Doreen and I and she are both grateful for the nudge!
Well remembered, sorely missed! Gregory and Doreen MacDonald

We would like to wish you our deepest sympathy to Kelly,Jason, ,Milliana and all the family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. .

Such sad news. Although my visits from St.Catharines to Ottawa were not as frequent as I would have liked it was always a pleasure to receive the welcome greetings iI received from people like Doug. RIP Dpug.
