David John Mason, 78, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2022. David was born to Charles Albert and Marjorie Maude Mason in Toronto, Ontario on November 9, 1943.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Toronto in 1966 and left right away to live, work and play in Bathurst, New Brunswick. That is where he met the love of his life Geraldine and began working at Bathurst Power and Paper Company. He retired from Stone Consolidated Bathurst after 35 years where he was Operations Manager in the Woodland Division. He LOVED the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and built his own seaworthy wooden fishing boat to cruise the Chaleur Bay. He made many beautiful woodworking pieces that many family and friends have to remember him by. Dave was a quiet, calm, gentle soul, with a love of music and dancing with Geraldine. He was a great steward of the lands and well-loved by many in the forestry and outdoors community.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings Gladys, Irene and Stan. He is survived by his sister Joyce or Toronto, wife of 54 years Geraldine, daughter Tracey (Don) of Chilliwack, British Columbia and son Charles (Sarah) of Sarsfield, Ontario, grandchildren Deidra, Donald, Théodore, Emmeric and Olivier, great grandchildren Malaki and Mason, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Sarsfield long term care home. There will be no services, but those who wish to remember David in a special way may make a donation to the Ottawa/Renfrew Dementia Society at 1750 Russell Rd Suite 1742, Ottawa, ON K1G 5Z6.

Hello Charles and Geraldine,
I am sorry for your loss. The obituary certainly captured his life very well. He was always so pleasant and seemingly happy. Your family was a large presence in our community.

I know he and your family have had a difficult time over the past few years. Mom suffered similarly, but for a much shorter time so I know a bit of that situation.

May your find peace.

Dear Geraldine, on behalf of Margaret and myself, I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to you, Tracey, Charles and their families. I will always chuckle when I think of Dave asking “what are you building, the Taj Mahal?” when checking out the truss system of our kitchen when we rebuilt. God bless.

My deepest sympathies to Geraldine and all loved ones who knew Dave. I am very sorry of his passing and my heart weighs heavy.
Although it was only a few years, I had the wonderful pleasure of knowing Dave and was to be in the presence of his extensive outdoor knowledge, artistic woodworking, massive beach bonfires, and of course his wonderful sense of humour. A great memory for me was at Traceys Doctorate Grad and we visited Drumheller and trekked up inside the big dinosaur statue and came out the mouth (see photo!). We laughed soooo hard – and nothing beats laughing! Love you Dave – Rest In Peace.

I am very sad to learn of Dave’s passing. We had so many good times together in Bathurst in the 1970s and later on when the family moved to Shawinigan. Many thanks to our mutual friend Roland Beaudoin for making me aware of this development. Dave was loved and appreciated by all, both at work and play.
