In Memory of Bruce Roger Coombe
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Bruce who passed away after an extended, fierce battle with cancer at the age of 69. Son of the late Doris and James Coombe, beloved husband of Rowena Evoy-Coombe and father to furry daughter Ruby. He will be greatly missed by his family…..sister and brothers Eldon Coombe (Lynda), Wayne Coombe (Jane), Linda McEwen (Douglas) and brother-in-law Richard Evoy (Carolyn) and loving uncle and great uncle to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Many people called him their friend or neighbour and we consider all of them to be part of our wider family who have supported us on our journey.
Bruce grew up in Elmvale Acres and attended Hillcrest High School and graduated from Algonquin College as an Engineering Technologist. He was a longtime employee of the City of Ottawa. Bruce was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed baseball and hockey. He loved golf and was a member of Camelot Golf & Country Club since 1992. He was also a member of the Rideau Curling Club for a number of years where he met his wife Rowena.
We wish to thank all the doctors and staff of The Ottawa Hospital, but especially Doctor Garth Nicholas and Doctor Peter Cross of the The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre who cared for Bruce with great empathy and determination and also Doctor Michael Malek and the staff of the Civic Family Medicine Group of TOH for their assistance and support.
We also wish to thank the doctors of the Soins Palliatifs Orleans team and the coordinators, nurses and PSW’s of the Ontario Health at Home group as well as the nurses and PSW’s of Chapel Hill Retirement Home, Orleans (especially the 2nd floor palliative care group) for all of their help and kindness.
Friends and family can join us for a simple Celebration of Life at the Heritage Funeral Complex on Trim Road in Orleans, Ontario on Monday, December 9, 2024 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.
Interment will be in Laird Cemetery (near Sault Ste Marie, Ontario) in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (CNETS), The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre or the CNIB Guide Dog Program or a charity meaningful to your heart.

Our condolences Rowena and to Bruce’s family. Bruce touched our lives in the best way. His smile was contagious and his complete attention to us as his friends was genuine. What a generous and happy soul. We are lucky to have known him. Allan maintains that he was the best one-handed chipper that he has ever known! (I’ll always cherish my visit with him and you in his last week.)
