A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Emma Suzanne « Sue » Van Strien
It is with great sadness that the family of Sue Van Strien (nee MacAdoo) announce her passing at the age of 76, on Monday, September 6, 2021 after a brave fight with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Beloved wife of Jacobus “Jake” Van Strien of 57 years. Loving mother of Tessa Chalkley (Stephen), Kelly McDermaid (Steven), Jo-Anne Van Strien and Paula Van Strien. Wonderful Grandma of Logan, Jake and Rachel Chalkley, Madison and John Alan McGrath, and Taylor Vercholuk. She will be fondly remembered and forever missed by her family and friends.
A private family service was held at Orleans United Church in Ottawa. Interment to follow at a later date at Point Alexandria United Church Cemetery, Wolfe Island. In lieu of flowers or as an expression of condolence, the family would suggest a donation to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Aunt Sue was our Vanstrien record keeper! She knew every niece and nephew and their spouses and their kids, and the kids kids and our birthdays and anniversaries! We got to be together last March, just before covid, and before she was diagnosed and she expressed how grateful she was for her family and her life! I’m thankful to have that memory and will miss her dearly.
Sue will never be forgotten by us, Sue and I started to grade school together some 70 years ago and have forever been the best of friends or maybe more like sisters. I am so thankful I had the chance to speak to her on the phone a week ago ,she loved her family more than life itself and could talk about their successes every chance she got. I will miss our every other week phone call even if we had no new news to talk about. Love you Sue and be a bright star in our sky every night keep shinning and watch over us all
I am saddened by this shocking news. My deepest condolences and fondest memories of many amazing memories in the Van Strien home. To all of you, I am sending my love.
Dear ole sister Sue as you called yourself. I still can’t accept the fact you have left this world and the journey of life you had here. But I feel so blessed you are at peace and with the lord who you worshipped and loved .. S o much faith and courage and was looking forward to joining the Heavenly Choir and get the Angel wings you have definitely earned over 76 years. When you left you took so much of me with you. my life will never be the same. My Rock through all my life and you always had my back as I also always had yours. Unbelievable the qualities you had as a Wife, Mother, Grandma and Friend Aunt and godly sister. You have only been gone a few days and it is overwhelming the loss. I will always be so thankful to call you my sister. You are definitely one of a kind, Till we meet again you will be loved forever, ,and never forgotten, RIP
We were deeply saddened to hear about Sue’s passing. We will always have the greatest admiration for her bravery and attitude as she dealt with the dismal prognosis of her disease. She never complained and always deflected from her troubles by expressing love and concern for others.
