À LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Thomas Edwin (TED) Dashney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ted Dashney on October 6, 2024 at the age of 93.

Predeceased by his loving wife Mary, he will be missed by his daughters Shirley and Karen, son-in-law Cliff Smith and grandchildren Mitchell and Courtenay Smith. Survived by his baby brother Arnold (late Leona) and predeceased by his sister, Helen Wilson (late Merrill).

He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many life-long friends.

Ted was born and raised in Navan, growing up on the family farm on Rockdale Road.

Ted’s adult work-life centred around working within the Bradley family’s businesses with whom he had a lifetime friendship.  Beginning as a milk truck driver picking up milk cans at local farms and delivering to Ottawa dairies, Ted later worked at the store and drove school buses. As a bus driver it was his great pleasure to transport thousands of children between home and school, mainly driving within the Queenswood Heights and Queenswood Village areas. His lifetime love of hockey found him spending many hours in the Navan arena supporting the local teams, and never missing a Senators game even if he had to listen to it on the radio.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and companions that have been part of Dad’s life: Inez, Callie, Sophie, Amii, Kelly, Vickie.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 17th 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Navan followed by interment at St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery.

A reception will then take place at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church Hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to CHEO, St. Mary’s Anglican Church (e-transfer to  stmarys.navan@outlook.com) or a charity of your choice.

Condoléances

Please accept my deepest condolences for the passing of your beloved father. As one of his caregivers, it was a privilege and honor to work with your dad. I will always cherish the wonderful memories I have of him and our times shared together. I will miss having our lovely chats as he always had many life stories to share with me. I will miss our times watching the Ottawa Senators play and I will think of your dad every time I watch a game. Ted was such a wonderful man and he will be missed. Wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time.

It has been a great honour to get to know Ted a bit while doing his footcare for many years. I was always amazed by his memory of past events. He loved to tell stories and had fond memories of the past. Ted was always polite and very much a gentleman. He had a great sense of humour and there was often a bit of teasing and joking whenever I met him. He would often state in the last few years that he didn’t know why he was still here when others had gone before him. I got to know Shirley who was able to be there for Ted to care and do what ever she could for him. She is to be commended for her love and dedication to her Dad. Rest in peace Ted. Our condolences to Shirley and Karen and family.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our deepest condolences. May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead,
Lavinia and Josie

Our deepest condolences to the family.
It was a great pleasure for me to work with Ted. A hard worker although not a mechanic helped me as much as he could repairing the buses. He loved to joke and laugh. I will always remember him with fond memories. RIP Ted, I will miss you.
