A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Sandra Sheridan

Peacefully on June 22, 2022, after a short yet courageous battle, Sandra Sheridan (Shaw) passed away at 78 years of age. She left this world surrounded by love.

Sandra was born in Renfrew, Ontario on September 5th, 1943 to proud parents Agnes and Evans Shaw. A true ‘valley girl’, her spirit always longed for time with family along the Ottawa River and many would say her heart never left.  She moved from the valley in 1963 to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. After a few years of teaching in the big city of Toronto, she returned to Renfrew to start a new life. She then settled in Ottawa and obtained employment within the Federal Government. It was there she met the love of her life, Robert. After the birth of their second child, Sandra left the working world to follow her true passion of being a mother. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest gifts of her life and her love for them was second to none. For Sandra, nothing was more important than family. She cared so deeply for those in her life, and we are so very blessed to have had her in ours. Her loss leaves a void that nothing can fill.

Survived by her husband Robert Sheridan, daughters Stephanie Moorman (Paul), Julie Sheridan-Cole (Jonathan) and Karen Johnson (George). Sister to Doug Shaw (Sandra), Peter Shaw (Linda) and Jane Gagnon (Kevin). Loving Nana to Sheridan, Andrew, Nathan, Abigail (Alex), Olivia, Jack, Lily and Philip. Lovingly remembered by Hugh Grout (father to Sheridan, Andrew, Nathan and Abigail) and family, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Please join our family to celebrate Sandra’s life at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Rd. (at Taylor Creek Dr.), July 5th, visitation from 11-12pm, service at 12pm, reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Condoléances

I will always remember Sandra’s smile and the way she would call me « Bethy » as only close family did. I am sorry I am not able to be there with you but I am holding all of you in my heart.

We were in the same class for several years at Renfrew Collegiate Institute, although we were not close friends. But it was wonderful to meet her again at school and class reunions where she was so proud to introduce her husband Bob and children. I send sincerely condolences to Bob and family. And of course greetings to my friend and Sandra’s brother Peter Shaw, as both of us were in the newspaper business at the Renfrew Advance.

To Bob, Julie, Stephanie, Karen and family:
My very sincere sympathy on the passing of Sandra. I was simply shocked when I heard and so very sorry. Sandi and I went way back to Renfrew days and went through school together. We met sporadically after high school, we visited in Toronto and upon her return from there she lived with me for a short time in Ottawa. We kept in touch over the years and shared luncheons with dear childhood friends. I have fond memories of the laughter we shared and the stories of long ago when we never thought that such a day would come. Unfortunately because of Covid we didn’t see each other for a couple of years and for that I am so sorry.
You all are in my thoughts and may her memory be a blessing in the days to come.
Love,
Pat Orme (Elliott)

Dear Bob, Julie, Stephanie and families,
My deepest condolences on the loss of Sandra. She was such a sweet, pleasant and caring person, I know well the pain in losing one so loved. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. May wonderful memories help carry you through this most difficult time! Most sincerely, sending love and hugs,
Lee

Very sad to lose my mother-in-law Sandra. Will definitely miss her kind heart and gentle spirit. Of course, now heaven will need to add more time for her to finish her meals! No one enjoyed conversations at the dinner table like Sandra and the more I cajoled her to hurry up, the more she would smile, start another story and take an extra 30 minutes to get through her first course.
May you Rest In Peace Sandra and take just as long as you like to finish desert!

Our deepest sympathy to the family. We hope you find strength and peace during these most difficult times in remembering the precious moments you shared together.

So sad and shocked to learn of Sandi’s passing. She was so very much a part of my cherished memories of Renfrew school days from kindergarten through graduation from R.C.I. In retirement years, I was fortunate to be able to touch base and renew these friendships through many “Frew” reunions and informal social reunions of our original kindergarten class. I will miss her friendly personality and warm smile, interest in others and I feel fortunate to have had her as part of these memories. Condolences to Bob and family.

The lovely, loving person that was Sandra remained unchanged from school days – conscientious, committed, detailed, kind, gentle, caring in every way. She was also possessed of a mischievous sense of humour, loved to laugh – and was quite the foxy lady in her youth! (She’d like that to be known.)
Family was her everything. She lit up whenever she talked about every single one of you – often, and in glowing terms. At length. She gave you her all.
Her old friends were important to her. Without diminishing my memories of a dear lady, I have a lingering regret at not seeing her in later years. I know she would give me the benefit of the doubt, just as she did for everyone.
« With malice toward none » comes to mind when I think of Sandra. The very definition of a pure soul, she will surely rest in peace.

My condolences to the Sheridan/Shaw families. I am sure your loss is unbearable. Sandra was the quintessential wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. . Your family was her life and it filled her with joy.
Sandra was my ‘best’ friend….many will claim this title. Anyway, I am sure I was one of her earliest, since we grew up on Bank street. We played together under the guidance of Agnes and Evan. Peter , Doug and Jane were usually present. How she cared for her family. Sandra and I walked to school together for 12 years. We shared our secrets and dreams. I am glad that her wishes came true with a loving husband and family.
I will always remember her as a ‘friend of a lifetime’.
Sleep well, dear Sandra

Are hearts are broken at the loss of your beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
We will fondly remember Sandra as a loving and generous soul. Her kindness will always be cherished.
Sincerely, Jodie Armstrong, Caleb and Caden Gagnon
