A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Richard (Rick) McNulty
He smiled at everyone until the end. Rick McNulty, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to anyone who pulled up a chair next to him, passed away peacefully at home while holding hands with his wife Peggy (nee Holt), his son Sean, and his daughter Kelly, exactly how he wanted it. Close by and forever in his heart are his granddaughter Naomi Grant, his daughter-in-law Anne (wife of Sean), and his grandson Blake who brought him endless joy and happiness. He leaves this part of his eternal journey with so many lessons for us all, as the baby of the McNulty family, a loving brother to Lucille, Jeanie, Paul, Carol, and Tom and fun loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, and their families.
Rick spent his life making us laugh and teaching us all to be kind, to help others, and not to worry about the little things. He will be dearly missed by the Holt family. The best friends he had are wonderfully too many to name here, his friends growing up in Ottawa, the many from all around Orleans, Bell Canada, and the Patterson Lakers. A profound thank you to the nurses and palliative care team at the General Hospital, as well as the many front line workers in the community who helped Rick over the past year, you made his life and our lives easier and graceful.
With the early morning pink sunrise on May 10, we shared with him all the laughs he gave to the world and we reminded him that as a man who always made sure the people around him were ok, it was his time to find peace. We invite you to share your happy memories of Rick on Thursday the 19th of May at Heritage Funeral Home, 1250 Trim Rd. Orleans. Visitation at 1:00 PM, service at 2:00 pm, and reception to follow.
Brother Rick was ‘The Best of the Best’ Brother you could ever wish for. We knew he would always ‘cover your back’ in bad times and jump in there in the good times.
Richard by brother, my friend…..you have left us with and empty void, but with so many awesome memories…..you will be missed and never forgotten❗️❤️🙏❤️
Rick was one of the happiest people I’ve ever met, I’ll always remember all the fun times up at Patterson Lake! You will be missed by many ❤️
Best euchre player and dancer ever! Kind to everyone and always there to help you out no matter what! He touched everyone’s heart who knew him. To know him was to love him! One of the good guys! Hope you and my dad get to share a few brews together in Chez Heaven! Thanks for all the great memories, you will never be forgotten!
Sorry to hear of his passing. I know he raised at least one kid right. My condolences.
Words cannot express my deepest sadness of the news of Rick’s (SIR’s) passing. I have known Rick for years and he was like a father to me and always treated me as one of his own children. The memories of him will never be forgotten. My deepest condolences to the entire McNulty family!! May he rest in peace! Hugs and kisses!!❤️
First met rick at Patterson Lake where he and Peggy lived in the next cottage to our daughter. What a delightful fellow he was and i will always remember him as my Euchre Partner. We had a lot of fun games at the lake when we were there. Then during one conversation i learned that he and I were sorta related. His first cousin Tim is married to my step-sister Cathy. RIP my friend – you fought the goodfight and you enjoyed your life over the past few years. Jake and I will always be grateful to have the opportunity to have met you and Peggy.
Rick was a true friend and was always there to help you out no matter what the task. I had many DaveFest parties over the years and when Rick arrived I knew that his personality, charm and smile would inspire us all to have a great time…which we did. We will miss you Rick.
We are very sad at the passing of Rick. He was a wonderful person with that happy smile he had for everyone. His sense of humor, his kindness and his love of people and parties was the best. There are not enough people in this world who were like Rick. Rick will be missed by so many as he touched the hearts of many. RIP Rick and we were very fortunate that you were in our life.

Rick was such a caring great guy! At Bell he helped me so much in the Vanier C.O. all those many years ago. When we visited the Cottage, Peggy and Rick made us so welcome. As I continue thru my Cancer journey I think back about Rick’s journey and see the positivity that he brought to every one he touched. He will be missed!
Dear Peggy and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Rick always had smiles and laughs to share with everyone. Gone too soon. My deepest sympathies to all of you. RIP Rick.
Rick was a good friend to us from the very first day we arrived on turner crescent. Be it sharing stories at an evening get together or in a casual laneway discussion, or the lending of a tool (which he always had), and advice on how to use it … Rick will be remembered for his amiable and gentle qualities and someone to be counted on when it mattered .
Rest easy our friend
Peggy, Kelly, Sean, Naomi and Blake, we are so sadden with the passing of Rick. He was a dear friend to us both. We always looked forward to arriving at the cottage on Friday nights to see him smiling and holding a « Coors Light. » When we would leave on Sunday’s he would usually be sitting or standing with a great smile again, and a loving wave as we pulled away. We loved as neighbor’s always being able to help you guys, and whenever we needed a tool, bolt whatever, he was always there to find what we needed. The special times together at your cottage / or ours, Thanksgiving at the McNulty’s, or just drink’s on either deck will be remembered always. RIP our friend, thank you for the friendship.
I was fortunate to have worked with Rick, first at the Talisman Motor inn and again in Bell Canada for many years. We had to many good times together with a lot of laughs. Rick will be missed by all that he touched! Sad he had to leave us so soon! My sincere Condolences to Peggy and Family. Rip Rick!
We both remember Rick as a kind, thoughtful and full of fun young guy in Ottawa in the 70’s. We are thinking of his family now and hoping that you find peace in knowing that he was so well loved.
It is with sadness when we heard that Rick, a gentle and thoughtful friend, passed away. Our thoughts are with you Peggy, Shawn and Kelly during this difficult time. It is certain that Rick will be missed and remembered by all who knew him at Lac Patterson. Remember that a loved one never leaves us… he lives deep in our hearts and to see him again, you just have to close your eyes!
Rick was one of the nicest men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I met Rick in 2000 when I moved from the O’Connor Co to the Bank St. Co. I had heard of him before I actually met him and he didn’t disappoint.
I learned a lot from Rick about different aspects of our business at Bell that I hadn’t been exposed to before. Rick was always the first to offer to lend a hand or provide his knowledge to a problem I might of had.
Always a smile on his face and a story to tell.
he was truly a pleasure to work with.
Out of the office, I liked listening to his stories and hijinks and adventures of his past years at Bell.
I was deeply saddened by the news of his passing last week.
I wish to convey my deepest condolences and sympathy to his wife Peggy and his entire family.
Thanks for the memories Rick!!
Godspeed and Rest In Peace old friend.
Heaven just got that much better!
On behalf of Karen, Sarah and Travis Iverson.
Sending our deepest condolences to my McNulty family members, Rick’s close mates – ANYONE who had a chance to embrace his humor, signature smile, kindness and unique laugh.
I still think back on the first time I met Mr. McNulty. Shinning his Jaguar he got for $2, 500 in mint condition handing me the rag after asking who this | beep | was? My face dropped, I was speechless and Sean said he’s just messing around with ya. Since that day I don’t recall how many weekends were spent at the McNulty’s. Coolest dad ever.! I’m going to miss his jokes, laugh AND amazing pancakes.
May you rest easy Mr..McNulty
(only pic I had of the both of us).
God Bless,
There are so many good things one can say about Rick, how kind he was, how positive, how jovial, how courageous, how interesting to talk to. What a great cook he was. His unmatched hospitality. HIs generosity. His handyman skills. All true. We loved and admired him for all of those qualities.
What we will always be grateful for is the supportive role he played in our daughter Anne’s life, from late high school through to the present. He was always there for her, as is Peggy, when we could not be, long before Anne married their beautiful son, Sean.
Friends like Rick and Peggy are a rare treasure in life, and they have been an amazing, inspiring team. Open-hearted friendship has always awaited one and all at the McNulty home.
Rick was widely loved and will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt condolences to Peggy, Kelly and Sean, and to the whole big circle of grieving family and friends who now surround them with love. Rest in peace, Rick.
RIP Rick The world is a better place because of you.
Rick will be missed by his family, Lucille, Jeanie, Paul, Carol and Tom. He was a special person and the
« Light » in our family. Always ready to help. His charm and personality so captivating. Rest in peace little
brother, you were so loved and will be in our hearts forever.
Rick and I worked together at Bell and he was always a cheerful person except when dealing with the troublesome Audi. He moved on from being a good dependable installation tech to a central officeman working for some of his time in the Bank St CO. I send my sincere condolences to Peggy and the whole family Fond memories remain. I regret I did not know of Rick’s passing before now.
