Passed away peacefully December 30, 2021, at her home in Ottawa after a short but courageous battle with cancer in the presence of her family, Paula Fitzgerald, aged 60. Leaving to mourn her husband of 36 years, Bert, daughter Erin (Alex Derickx) and son Kyle (Amélie Asboth); she also leaves behind her brothers Peter, John (Andrea), Fred, Brock (Dave), Todd and Robert (Amanda); sisters Barb Goodyear (Geoff), Anna, Tina Hudson (Dave), Jacqui (Darcy); sister in law Dorothy Handrigan, brother in law John Kavanagh. Predeceased by her parents, Jack (2006) and Helen (2018), infant brothers, Fred and John, (1953); brother in law, Frank Handrigan and sister in law, Geraldine Kavanagh. Cremation has taken place at the Heritage Funeral Complex. Visitations will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Heritage Funeral Complex located at 1250 Trim Rd., in Orleans, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or The Alzheimer Society.
Paula was a loving and caring person – a true friend to all, including her many groups – her book club (her Besties), her Florida (Bradenton Tropical Palms) group and her long time Newfoundland and Ottawa friends.
Bert Kyle and Erin my deepest sympathy and love to you all for the loss of your best wife and mother. Fond memories of a dedicated school volunteer who loved and advocated for her children. Never a dull moment when Paula around. You will be greatly missed and remembered for your bright, friendly smile.

Paula was a great lady who took such great care of Ryan when I returned to work after maternity leave. She treated him just like her own son.

Our hearts are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Paula. We have fond memories of your kindness to us in Florida. I especially remember the night I had to call Paula and ask to come over . There were some who did not believe there was a critter in the house but Paula did.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with Bert, children and. the whole family.. when we were kids Paula and I were close cousins. You grow up, move away and you always expect your loved ones to be there. Another angel gone home.

I am terribly saddened to learn of Paula’s passing. We worked together several years ago at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School. She was absolutely delightful to work with. She was charming and funny and all the students and staff loved her. I am deeply sorry that your wonderful wife, mother, sister and sister-in-law Paula has gone from your lives.

So sorry to not be able to be there in person today to share my condolences and respect for the wonderful woman that Paula was. My heart is with all of you grieving.
I worked for several years with Paula at Colonel By. I was always so happy when Paula would be working with us because she was so full of fun and stories. She would tell me about her daughter Erin, in the same Queen’s Engineering program that my own daughter is currently completing. It is a huge loss to this world with Paula’s passing. I am just seeing this now. My sincere condolences on the passing of Paula,. I have been gone from Orleans for sometime now so was unaware of Paula’s passing. She was a great gal and we enjoyed many years together in book club . She always brought her thoughtfulness and laughter and that great smile wherever she went. RIP Paula, you will be dearly missed.
