A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Marie Cunningham

March 26, 1930 – October 26, 2019

Much loved Daisy Marie (Marie) Cunningham (nee Demers), 89 years, passed peacefully on October 26, 2019 following a long and courageous struggle with dementia.

Devoted and much cherished mother of Joseph, Janet Luloff (Terry) and Arthur Hinchliffe (Rita).  Treasured grandmother of Heather Rose (Ken Ward), Hilary Rose (David Meinen), Jason Hinchliffe (Jessica), and Matthew Hinchliffe (Melodie).  Fondly remembered step-grandmother of Matthew Luloff (Laura), Amy Luloff (Matt Robert) and Victoria Luloff.  Lovingly remembered sister-in-law of Michael and Fran Cunningham.   Marie will be warmly remembered by her nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends.   Preceded in death by her beloved husband William Patrick “Pat” Cunningham (retired Lt. Col. RCAF), her treasured son Michael and her sister Rita Kiggens (nee Demers).

Marie was a free-spirited, loving, wonderfully fun and strong woman who set an example of how to enjoy and treasure every moment in life.  Her life journey started in Toronto, with stops in Gimli, Trenton, Baden-Baden and Lahr Germany and Ottawa.  Her late husband’s RCAF career took her twice to Germany to live, where she enthusiastically travelled to many countries.  Marie was an excellent downhill skier who had the great fortune to ski the alpine ranges of Europe, Canada and the US, and she was a dynamic member of the Mont Tremblant ski and snowboard community.  Marie was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic member of the Camelot Golf and Country Club.  A natural businesswoman, Marie operated her boutique lingerie store in downtown Ottawa with gusto.

A special thank you to all the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Garry J. Armstrong Long-Term Care Home.  Great appreciation for the Home’s palliative and end-of-life programs and the dedicated staff who provided the best possible care and comfort to Marie during her last four years.  Heartfelt gratitude to her wonderful caregivers from Nurse Next Door who were an important part of “team Marie”.

Marie’s life will be celebrated at the Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Rd, Orleans on November 9, 2019, with visitation at 12:00pm, a service at 2:00pm followed by a reception.  Donations in Marie’s memory can be made to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County or to the Garry J. Armstrong Home to provide worthwhile support for the Home’s end-of-life program.  To donate to the Garry J. Armstrong Home, you may send a cheque in the name of the City of Ottawa with “In Memory of Marie Cunningham” in the memo field to: Garry J. Armstrong Home, 200 Island Lodge Rd., Ottawa, ON, K1N 5M2. Online condolences may be offered at: www.heritagefh.ca
