A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE John Archibald MacKinnon
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of John Archibald MacKinnon on May 16th 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elsie MacKinnon, and his sister Florence Hinton.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean (Ryan) MacKinnon, and his children, Heather (Alnoor) Jiwan, Christopher, Philip (Mary Bonnell) and Jeanne Bonnell. He will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren; Farrah, Alyshia, and Adam Jiwan (Saige Woolley); Samantha (Dustin Gillanders) and Bethany MacKinnon; Jillian, John William, and Jake Bonnell; and Riley, Astrid, and Jack MacKinnon. He was the proud great-grandfather to Georgia and Ivy Gillanders.
John was born in New Liskeard, Ontario, but spent his childhood in Cape Breton where he developed his love of music and animals.
He moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland as a young man where he met and fell in love with his wife, Jean. They moved to Prince Edward Island shortly after their marriage for John to take a position with the Federal Department of Public Works. They spent 44 happy years on the Island where they raised their family. Apart from family, his passion was horses, which he rode, trained, and treated with the utmost love and care. In later years, they relocated to Ottawa to be closer to their children.
John was a loving husband, and proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to a charity of their choice.
Very saddened to hear of our dear brother-in-law’s passing.
We have many fond memories of Jean and Johns’s many trips to Newfoundland and when visiting them in PEI and Ottawa.
Our deepest sympathies to Jean. Chris, Heather, Philip, Jeanne, and families
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Wish we could be there.
