A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Gregory Russell Moore

It is with heavy hearts that we have to say goodbye to Greg Moore (aka Penguin or Guin for short). Beloved husband of Danette, enthusiastic step-dad to Sadie, loving doggie grampa to Violet. He was also a good son, brother, uncle and friend. Greg fought hard to beat the cancer that snuck up on him in early 2021. Sadly, he lost that battle Saturday, November 12, 2022, at home, surrounded by some of the most important people in his life.

Greg loved his family and friends fiercely and openly. Sometimes a grizzly bear, he was soft, wonderful and perfectly mushy on the inside. Greg loved the outdoors – golfing, camping and canoeing. He loved animals and sports. He loved the challenge of building and fixing things. He loved to plan trips – big and small. He would spend hours to find special and unique places to visit or stay. He made lists of wacky roadside attractions to see along the way. He and Danette enjoyed many trips around Ontario and all over Canada.

Mostly, he was a wonderful husband, friend and step dad. He was Sadie’s #1 fan. He supported her at all events but especially loved watching her play Ringette and school hockey. Greg has an amazing group of life long friends. They had many adventures (and mis-adventures..) together. There were always lots of stories to tell- mostly full of laughs but some tears. They are endlessly devoted to him and each other.

To the end, Greg was protective and more concerned with everyone else than himself. He has left an enormous hole in our lives but we are so grateful to have known him. Special thank you to all the staff at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. The care was always impeccable. By request, Greg will be cremated. There will be a private Celebration of his life. Donations can be made in his honour to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus if desired.

Condoléances

Greg was a very important part of the Accommodations Team of the Ottawa Finance and Administration. He was knowledgeable and hard working. I really enjoyed being one of his supervisors.i will always cherish the good time we had at work. My prayers are with Danette at this very painful juncture in her life.

Greg was a wonderful friend and co-worker to me, a respectful, faithful, loyal husband and very best friend of Danette. He loved and was very proud of Sadie, and he smiled and chuckled every time he recounted a story or adventure with her. During my years of working with him he was always patient, always willing to teach, to share his vast knowledge, and always forgiving and had an optimistic outlook. Greg was almost always 99% Teddy bear as you can tell from my description above. Greg was liked and respected by everyone he worked with, including every level of management. There was no one that had the same experience and knowledge he did, and he will be missed by everyone in the team at 333, 875, and 2215, and all his and Danette’s friends.
Rest In Peace my friend & thank you.

Greg will be greatly missed, I worked & knew Greg for 20 yrs. He was a good friend and was always up for a laugh. We will miss our friend deeply, I’ll cherish the many laughs and good times we had. My prayers are with Danette and Sadie & extended family. God bless him and take care of him now. Rest in peace.

Danette; words of sympathy feel inadequate for such a great loss. I wish you strength and comfort in the days and weeks ahead.

I once read that even when we cannot see the sun, it’s still there shining down from the sky, spreading its warmth so that we may one day bask in it again.

Greg will be with you forever in your heart. My sincere condolences to your family.

So sad to hear this news today.
I will be forever grateful to Greg for giving me the opportunity to work with the Real Property family at Heron Rd. The greatest memory I have of Greg was to see his infectious smile that would light up a room and of course seeing the love that he shared with Danette. Sending hugs to Danette and Sadie.

I do think of the many great times we shred on the golf courses in Florida, Pennsylvania and certainly many locally. I miss those times, truly sorry for his loss.

I feel so blessed for getting to know you both because of you being such good friends with my brother Ron. He would speak of you both often about having such nice people to work with and still be able to remain friends even after retiring. Always caring and helpful to others.
Danette I just want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and Sadie during this very difficult time. Cherish the memories you have of the time you had with Greg. He will never be forgotten and is at peace with no more pain. He left us all better for knowing him and that in itself is a great blessing. The world could use some more Gregs.
God Bless
