A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Gordon Chestnut
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 28, 2023 at the age of 60 years. He was of son of Ralph Chestnut and Betty Chestnut (nee Mitchell) and beloved husband to the late Sherry Chestnut (nee Sabourin). He leaves in sadness his cherished children Mitchell Chestnut (Alanna) and Christina Franklin (Lorne) and adored grandfather to Jason and Aly Franklin. He also leaves in sorrow his brother Steven Chestnut (Kris), his sisters Karen Chestnut, Sherri Chestnut and his nieces and nephews: Jamie, Matthew, Krissii and Cyndii, as well as many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to say thank you to the ICU unit at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus for all their amazing care provided.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Road, Orleans, on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Heritage Chapel at 2:30 p.m.

Gord was always like an Ottawa dad to me while I lived in Ottawa after Mitch and I met in University. I’ll never forget the time when we were moving and Gord rented what had to be the largest moving truck in Ottawa for a three bedroom apartment. I don’t even think we filled the entire truck with a single layer of boxes, beds and furniture. I’m glad that I was able to have seen him before I left to move out to Calgary for a year.

Gordo you were a gem and certainly one of a kind. You will be missed by so many. Judy and I will be out of town and unable to attend your service but you will be forever in our thoughts. Gone way too soon and until we meet up again.

From Ron and Marjorie our deepest condolences to the Chestnut family. As family friends for fifty-five years we new Gord for all those years and knew him through the different stages of his life. He will be missed by all. Our hugs are there for all of the family. The few minutes we talked to Gord a couple of weeks ago will be remembered.
I was part of a group of girls and guys who hung out in the 90’s. Gord was part of that group.. There was excitement of ball hockey, a few cocktails. Sometimes long nights.,followed by some very long days. There were trips, camping,Springsteen. Gord was always there with those crazy sunglasses, that little red Mazda. and that infectious smile. I can’t tell you how much fun there was. However things like marriages, children, and serious careers come. In my case I choose a different path, an grew awayssingss from those friends. I always kept up with my friends of those days. Gord being one of them. It was a tremendous hit to the soul, to find out about Gord’s passing. To his family, Ralph an Betty,Steve and the rest of his family, specificly his children. Your memories are probably grand, and when your sad and missing Gord, pull one grand memory, dust it off, an enjoy. Like I’m doing right now with AC/DC.

And we had a great deal of fun, silliness, humour and general good-times.
As you always reminded me, if you can’t be an athlete be an athletic supporter…
You done good, you know. You made the world a better place. I will miss you bud.

Gord hired me in 1997. He mentored me throughout the years 1997-2000. I was glad to hear him say I was “one of his good hires » and I always enjoyed his sense of humour.
