A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Dr. Edgar LeClair

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Dr. Edgar LeClair on December 21st, at the age of 94.  He died with his wife Audrey and his children Louise, Bob and Mitch at his side.

He practiced medicine for 52 years in Azilda, a community which embraced him with open arms.  He treated his patients as family, always going that extra mile.  He will be remembered forever for that infectious laugh of his!  How he loved singing, dancing and sports (hockey, golf, bowling and skiing).  Son of the late George LeClair and the late Marie Emma (Pineau).  He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years Audrey (Gallant).  Beloved father of Louise Bélanger (Mike), Bob LeClair (Colette), Mitch LeClair (Joanne).  Beloved “pappi” of his 8 grandchildren Jacob, Sam, Noah, Magalie, Jérémie, Joël, Justin and Mika.  He is survived by his three dear sisters Alvire, Annette and Rose Marie and deceased by his brothers Leo and Eric and sisters Georgina and Yvonne.

At his request, he will go back to his beloved island PEI in July where there will be a celebration of his life.

A special thank you goes out to the Bruyère staff and the palliative team who provided such wonderful care up until the very end.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bruyère Foundation: https://www.bruyere.org/en/bruyere-foundation or the Dementia Society: https://dementiahelp.ca/ways-to-give/donate-in-memory/

Condoléances

Dear Audrey and family,
I am so saddened to hear this news. I had the privilege to work with Edgar at the hospital and briefly at his office.
Dr Leclair was a dedicated, thoughtful and compassionate doctor. He always went above and beyond and worked tirelessly towards a healthy outcome for his patients.
My deepest sympathies, thoughts, prayers and love are with you.
Pauline Bonneville.

So sad to hear about Dr. Leclair passing. I remember when he first came to Azilda with his mother. He was always a dedicated and loving care provider. He will be sadly missed by all in Azilda who knew him for what he has done and contributed to the community. Sincere condolences to his wile and children and family.

Always going above and beyond for sure. When we were children (early 80’s) Pierre cut his finger, we knocked on Dr LeClairs home on a Sunday morning, Dr LeClair took us to his office to stich him up. Just one of many great memories of how he treated people in our community. RIP Sir.

So sad to hear of Dr Leclair passing he was my boss, my friend he was a person with a big smile and took time to have a conversation with you when he met you. We pray for you Audrey and your family.
My Condolences to Audrey and your family

Our deepest sympathies for your loss Audrey. Marc & I were so fond of « Doc. » We truly felt like he was part of the family.

Doc was my family doctor. He was great. He was also a good friend of my mom (Jean Theriault and step-father Charlie). My sympathies to Audrey and the family
May he rest in peace.

Condolences to the family…
Dr LeClair was a wonderful person. I remember in the 70’s when my sister jumped off the boat docks on Whitewater and cut her foot very badly and Mom and Dad drove straight to his house and he followed them to the hospital and stitched her up and sent us on our way. He had a huge heart for his patients.

Rest In Peace Doctor LeClair. Thank you for keeping my family and myself in good health for many decades, and for caring enough for your patients to do house calls in the middle of the night, stitching me up numerous times, even on a Sunday, and for being an incredible human being! You will missed but never forgotten….. Regards, Wayne Willett.

My condolences to Audrey and family. I worked for him in Azilda for 5 years and can say he was the best boss I ever had. Every day Dr. Leclair would walk in with a big smile and always happy as can be.
Everyone loved him.
Rest In Peace 💗

Our condolences to Aunt Audrey, Louise, Mitch & Bob and their families. I remember Uncle Edgar was always the life of the party, with an infectious laugh.
May he Rest In Peace
Sending hugs xx

My deepest condolences to the LeClair Family.
Dr. LeClair saved my life in 1981 when I had a life threatening hockey injury, he knew who to contact for prompt treatment and surgery to follow and for that I thank you Dr LeClair. May you rest in peace

So sorry for your loss. He was such a great man who touched many lives. Sympathies to Mrs Leclair, Louise, Bob and Mitch and your families.

Dear Audrey, Louise, Mike, Mitch and Bob,
Ed was salt of the earth. A genuine kind and curious soul who made every person he encountered feel like they are the only person that mattered. You all have learned well from your father as you all have inherited these gifts. He is missed.
Love, Joanne and Stephen

I totally loved this man. He brought me into this world, looked after me until he retired, was competitive in Hockey, shared swimming pool activities in the Soo, in which I have a picture of us swimming and jumping around, having a grand old time. Sad to hear of his passing.

My deepest condolences to the Leclair family. Dr. Leclair brought me into this world and then saved my life when I was 18. He helped me with my children’s prescriptions when I had no money and I don’t know how I would of made it without him. He certainly has earned his place in heaven. Thank you for being in my life and being such a great doctor.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of Dr LeClair. He delivered all of us 4 and took such amazing care of our parents especially as they aged. He arranged housecalls when our mom was bedridden and so difficult to bring her to the office.

So sad to hear of his passing I have a lot of good memories that I will cherish. My sincere sympathy to the family.
Rest in piece

Not only was Edgar Leclair a great physician, but he always greeted you with that trademark smile and a conversation always started with him asking how you were on a more personal level. He loved life, loved having fun, Doc loved his work (and it showed) but he ultimately loved his wife, children and grandchildren the most, even letting one of his boys, which shall remain nameless, ski off the roof, down towards the lake! After all, if something were to happen he could fix him, right?

A young Dr Leclair showed up in Azilda to open what eventually became a thriving medical practice but he never forgot his beloved PEI, making sure the family was introduced to the place he once called home. Azilda is where he laid his roots and made so many great friends, all the while, caring for them all, including a junior hockey team or two. A real community hero!

Rest In Peace Doc! You’ve certainly earned it. ♥️

Uncle Ed,

You will be missed by all but you will live on in the great memories of all who knew/loved you.

Aunt Audrey – giving you a big lift off the ground hug and to the cousins and extended family our sympathies.

There are more memories to recount than space or time available. Some of my favourite as I think back over my lifetime being lucky enough to having such a fun Uncle with an Aunt and cousins that we enjoyed growing up with…

– being pulled over by my Dad and Uncle as us cousins enjoyed the caddie after a night at the Octobar
– clamming in PEI
– Snob Hill tigers football game
– long and loud parties at the LeClair household
– spoons and piano concerts
– deep sea fishing excursions (with a bottle of Bells)
– Extended summer visits in Azilda
– road trips to PEI
-“Peaches, peaches, I love peaches” and “Black Magic”
– laughter filling every nook and cranny wherever Uncle Ed found himself

Love you, respect you and will always remember you!

Our deepest sympathies to Audrey, children and family. Doc was our caregiver for most of his career. One of my best memories was as a boy he would pick us up and bring us to the copper cliff arena to play hockey with us, He knew how important sports was for the community. Rest in peace, he earned his wings.

I am 70 now but I remember him coming to our home many times as a youngster, he also was a true friend to my mother in her last days, I agree that anyone who was raised and lived in Azilda will always remember him, he was a wonderful Doctor and human being and will always be remembered. My sympathies to the family and rest assured that His memory will stay alive for a long time to come.

My deepest sympathies to Audrey and family. I have many fond memories of Ed as a friend and doctor in Azilda.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

We are so very sorry for your loss. He was a great man. We both have wonderful memories of him. He touched many lives in Azilda. Martin and Sylvia Kainola and family.

My sincere condolences go to the family. Dr Edgar was my family physician from the age of 2 till his retirement. He was like the king of Azilda for me and a lot of children when we where growing up At 13 years of age he put stitches on my chin when I was playing hockey on a Sunday morning and sent me back on the ice . . I would hitch a ride with him to Sudbury just to get a fast ride in his Cadillac Eldorado. These are times I will never forget as a young man growing up in a little place like Azilda. When Audrey and Dr LeClair where married we the whole village where welcome to there wedding party.I will end by saying we the population of Azilda where so fortunate to have Dr Edgar as the Big brother I will always remember. Thank you for being there.

Our deepest condolences to Audrey and family for your loss. ‘Doc’ Leclair was a wonderful man and physician. My parents (Gil & belated Dora Brouillette) and the girls (Louise & JoAnne & Chantal ) have great memories back in Azilda, of the Leclair family as friends and the family doctor household . Dr Leclair’s memory will live on forever. Wishing you, Audrey and family, strength and comfort during these difficult times.

Dear Mrs Leclair and family,

This is the only contact details I have.
My name is Andre Labine. When I grew up in Azilda « Doc » was such a positive influence on me. He was more than a sports coach, but he was a life coach. He was an influencer. I went on to university and had a successful national and international career. I know he contributed financially to many groups in Azilda as we grew up.
I am sure there are 1000’s of stories like mine..
I have too many stories about things we did with doc.

Audrey, you may remember the weekend you were skiing in Ottawa, you were Del Bulfon. This was a think one of the first times for skiing with Del. I lived in Ottawa at that time. When Del fell off the chair loading, you were alone on the chair and were terrified. I skiied ip and loaded and finally got you to the top, that was at Vorlage.

May sympathies and Best Regards

Andre Labine

Our deepest condolences to Audrey and family. Doc was my family doctor as a kid and as an adult. I only have great memories of him.

He was our family doctor for decades. He was a very kind doctor. I did not know that he had moved to Orleans which is where I now live.
Yes. My hometown is Azilda.

Dear Aunt Audrey, Louise, Bobby, Mitch, and extended families,
We were so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing.
Uncle Ed was always a joy to be around, and we shared so many great moments together. From Azilda to PEI, ski hills to beaches, restaurants to family dinners, quiet (not many) to not so quiet times (lots), Ed made every gathering an event.
We will miss him dearly.

My father told me the story of how you rushed me to the hospital, in your brand new car after I had been hit unconscious by a car. I will forever be grateful.
I also recall you singing to my kids while administrating their vaccinations. You were so loved.
R. I. P. You will always be remembered.

sorry for the delay in sending out my deepest condolences to Dr Edgar LeClair. I was one of his patients I greatly appreciate his help as a family doctor. He was the very best doctor I have known and had
