A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Dr. Barrett (Barry) Adams
Dr. Barrett (Barry) Adams, pediatrician (1934-2022)
The family sadly announces the death of their father on September 27th, 2022. Barry succumbed to his chronic idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, with support of his family and the palliative care teams, with strength and resignation. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Anne (née Kay) in 2016. Barry was born in Cornwall, the third of nine children, to Archie and Belle. He his predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law Shirley (Vince Redmond), Val (Harvey Shannon), Gail (Earle Blackadder), Joan Kuhn, Alan Lougheed, Vinton Papps and his only brother Ronald. He is survived by his sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Patricia Lougheed, Carol Papps, Debbie and Rick Zabloski, Aniska (Annie) Adams and Art Kuhn, as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Dad was kind, loving and conscientious and brought to our home the love, caring and work ethic he learned from his parents and siblings. He enjoyed every day he went to work, whether see his hospital newborns and admissions or at his office to see his patients. It was difficult for him to retire.
Despite his dedication to his patients, he found time to contribute to his profession through active involvement with the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Paediatric Society and the College of Physician and Surgeons. Barry was very involved in advocating for the building of a children’s hospital in our community and was on the founding committee of CHEO when it opened. He remained an honorary staff member.
His family want to thank the palliative care team and the personal support workers for allowing him to remain in his home.
He is survived by his children and their spouses. Barry and Betty Anne were proud of their 7 children (Elizabeth (Marc Paquette), Brian, Carolyn (Nao Tateishi), Jennifer (Brad Arndt), Robert (Karen Desrosiers), Jeffrey (Trudy Dundass), Stephanie (Darren MacEachern)), 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. We specifically want to thank and recognize Barry’s grandson Stéphane Paquette, and his wife Josée for all their care and attention, allowing him to remain in his home, in comfort. Seeing his great-granddaughter Joëlle everyday brought him so much joy at the end of his life.
Regardless of how little or how much, how often or how infrequent, every bit making Barry comfortable was appreciated. He and we thank you sincerely.
