A LA DOUCE MÉMOIRE DE Jacques (Jack) Delorme

It is with great sadness the family of Jacques Delorme announce his passing on Oct 23, 2023 at the age of 85 years.  Jacques leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Louise (Potvin), his daughters Lynn Hanson (Paul), Denise Thomas (Peter), his adored grandchildren Kristy (Chris), Brad (Taryn), Matt (Sara), Mark (Kayla), Kelly (Mat) and his beloved great-grandchildren Leo, Jack, Rory, Rowan, Maeve, Isla, Olivia and Owen

Jacques was born in Ottawa to Eugene Delorme and Anna (Houle) and is predeceased by his siblings George, Roger and Marguerite and survived by his brother Robert.

Jacques joined the Canadian Armed Forces (RCEME) at the tender age of 18 and was married by the age of 21 to Louise, the girl that lived down the street! He was shortly posted to Germany in 1959 and became a dad to two girls by age 23. His return posting was to Ottawa (1961-66) with following postings to CFB Petawawa (ON)(1966-72), CFS Mont Apica (QC)(1972-74) and CFB Valcartier (QC)(1974-76). On these postings he taught his daughters how to fish and set trap lines, eat wild game, build the best campfires and how to use an outboard motor safely. He was a shark at cards winning most games and no trout or bass was safe from his line. His secret passion was to be a fishing guide.

After 20 years Jacques retired from the military and joined the RCMP as a constable in Ottawa (1976). He retired after another 15 years and settled into his best retirement ever at Cedar Cove Park campground on White Lake, fishing to his heart’s content. He was someone everyone went to for laughs, and for Mr. Fix It advice. He truly was a “Jack” of all trades! Jacques and Louise then enjoyed multiple cruises and became yearly snowbirds heading to Florida.  His Tetrus skills packing his vehicle was legendary!

Jacques also spent many years golfing with friends and neighbours and joined the Roy Hobbs Seniors centre to continue his other passion, playing bridge. While he did play bridge on line, it was never as enjoyable as the in-person Thursday bridge days followed of course by a “take out” lunch on the way home. These were the perfect combination days.

Once the grandkids and great-grandkids started coming he embraced the role of Gramps whole heartedly and they will miss him sorely.

Jacques spent the last 18 months at Chapel Hill Retirement Residence where he became close to the staff and other residents. He was an easy man to like and made many friends and yes even helped reestablish a bridge club!

Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff of Chapel Hill for their personalized care, friendships and support to Jacques and Louise especially the last several months.

Jacques will be terribly missed by his family, friends and neighbours.

In celebration of Jacques’ life, family and friends are invited to join us at Heritage Funeral Complex 1250 Trim Road, Orleans on Saturday December 2^nd 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am with a Celebration of Life service to follow 11:30-12:00 followed by a reception.   Internment will take place next spring.
